    Comfort & Warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: s

My skin is allergic to wool. It makes me itchy every time. I have learned to stay away from wool. But this merino base-layer is so comfy and warm and most importantly, I do not itch in this thing.

    Super warm!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Smartwool baselayers always make the perfect winter gift! Sent these to my dad and he's stoked to stay warm this winter! The fit is true to size and the colors are true to what you see here.

    Worth the bones

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 160lbs

You can find a decent baselayer for like $50 or $60, but this one is worth the money. It's very warm, but somehow it breathes too. You'll be at an elevation of like 11,000 feet with the wind whipping, and you're totally warm. Then you get down to the parking lot where it's 7,000 feet and 50 degrees, and you're comfortable, too. It's like magic or something.

    Love this thing

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'4"
    • Weight: 210lbs

I am becoming more and more of a believer in merino wool and this shirt is a big part of why.

I'm tall (6'4") with a pretty average build and have very long arms. I'm a Large Tall in brands that have a Tall size and between L and XL on most outdoor brands. The Large works really well for me in this shirt. It's a little bit short in the torso and sleeves if I wanted to wear it on its own, though I only use it as a baselayer. If I raised my hands above my head wearing just this, a significant portion of my gut would be hanging out, but it's a perfect size for a baselayer under a fleece or flannel or sweater, etc.

It's not super form fitting, which I like. A lot of form fitting baselayers tend to make me look like the Michelin Man in a super unflattering way. This is cut nicely so that it hangs well off my body, but still close enough to layer over it without a problem.

It's definitely a "medium weight." It has the thickness and weight of your average t-shirt, for reference, so it's not super thin like some other merino wool things I've used but not sweater thick. It is super cozy and has all the benefits of merino wool for heat/sweat management. I wear it against the skin and it doesn't itch at all.

It has significantly increased my comfort level on super cold winter days, including some all-day winter tailgating situations. I haven't done any rigorous physical activity while wearing it, so I can't speak to that, but it's become my go-to layer under whatever I'm wearing anytime the temperature dips below freezing.

It's never smelled bad at all. I've washed it multiple times in a regular washing machine and laid it flat to dry and it still looks new.

    Comfort and performance

    • Size Bought: Large

This baselayer has performed great for me both at the resort and in the backcountry. The merino wool keeps me warm and dry, even while skinning uphill. Extremely comfortable, everything I look for in an everyday baselayer.

    Great product

I love my Smartwool mid weight long underwear. The sweater is incredible warm and comfortable, and despite my initial fears of buying wool are soft and not-itchy. I can't recommend these guys highly enough.

      My husband's new favorite

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size

He LOVES this shirt. He's had smartwool base layers before, but they're all worn out now. I bought him a couple of new ones, and the best part is that they are long enough for his long arms but not baggy (he's 6'3 and thin). I have not dried them in the dryer, though.

      fall/winter/spring base layer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'2"
      • Weight: 180lbs

warm, natural material that is soft again my skin. Good, snug fit. A great base for lots of winter layers, or just under a jacket for spring and all. After 3 years of wear still holding up nicely.

      Comfortable, warm, non-stinky

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 175lbs

I use this shirt anytime I'm heading outside in any temperatures below 30-40 F. Hiking, fishing, hunting - anything. It's a great base layer - warm, wicks very well, and very little itch for wool.

In addition, if you get too warm, you can take an outer layer off and it breathes well enough to let you cool down. It's also comfortable enough that you can keep it on if you hit up the pub after your adventures.

Would have put four stars because it's not usable every day like some other base layers I've had, but for everything they've managed with wool, it deserves all five.

      Sooooper Soft

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 4'9"
      • Weight: 175lbs

Just got this in and I'm impressed! Compared to a similar Patagonia wool base, this is like a babies bottom! Material feels hefty like a thermal weight. Sizing is a tad big. I'm going to get a medium. I'm not 4'9"

      Solid Baselayer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Super comfortable, keeps you warm, and dries quickly. I've used this for skiing, hiking, touring and it does a great job. Sizing seems pretty spot on too!

      Does not keep shape

      • Size Bought: L
      • Height: 6'4"
      • Weight: 190lbs

After washing it lost shape and shrunk. Now does not fit so well.
Is any from mountain hardwear or smart wool aware of this issue. Items that cost 60 or 70 USD and you can use it few times? It's that worth it?

      No Brainer

      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 175lbs

Who doesn't love a good base layer? These are my go to whether I am hiking, backpacking, cold weather climbing, or hanging around the house. I love how the merino wool doesn't absorb my body odor as I'm sweating. THESE ROCK!
(I have the top and the bottom)

      Great Baselayer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 160lbs

This shirt does everything right. It us decently warm, they dry very quickly, its comfortable, and it doesn't stink. I wish they would add a little elastic to the shirt so that it would keep its shape in the sleeves. It hugs nicely around the wrist when you first put it on, but once the cuffs get stretched out they stay that way until you wash again. That and $100 for a long sleeve t shirt knock a star off. That being said, this is my go to baselayer.

      Awesome!

I've had this crew neck for about 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier. I've mainly taken it hiking and on a couple trips for out of town shows (I'm a musician). I've also used it as a baselayer while drumming for a couple of cold weather shows. I'm 6'1" and 160 lbs - the medium fits great. It does what it says it will by keeping me warm and dry. I have washed it a couple times and haven't seen any pilling yet with hanging it to dry. I will definitely be buying more SmartWool products in the future and have already recommend this shirt to friends and family!

I've used this crew neck top as a base layer for traveling. It's an awesome top! The fit is perfect. I'm 5' 10" and 165 lbs. A medium fits perfectly on me. The top fits close to the body but does not restrict movement. It's long enough to be tucked in and not come untucked. The material is outstanding. I prefer it to and polyester (Under Armour like) material. It washes easily in a sink and line dries in no time. Great product and I will definitely recommend to others. It is a buy once cry once piece of clothing!
