Have no fear, merino is here.

Luckily, you layered the SmartWool Men's NTS Midweight Zip Top under your waterproof shell before hitting the slopes this morning, especially considering the twenty minute lift-hold you endured in frigid, single-digit temps. This midweight baselayer features cozy merino wool for high levels of heat-trapping warmth and moisture-wicking comfort. Moreover, the seamless shoulders and flatlock body seams eliminate the scratchy, irritating feel common with many wool baselayers.

    • Wool baselayer helps you endure bitter temperatures
    • Merino 250 is the warmest in it's class
    • Incredibly warm and cozy, but breathable for active days
    • Wool is naturally antimicrobial staying fresh after multiple uses
    • Henley zipper allows for venting for air flow
    • Slim fit layers well under jackets

    Layer up!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 185lbs

This is one of my favorite baselayers to wear. It's moisture-wicking and does a great job at not stinking after a few uses (I try to get a few days out of my baselayers...don't judge me). Super soft and fits great as well. Can't beat it!

    Excellent baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Warm, comfortable, couldn't ask for more. I like the zip feature. Can wear several days will out camping without dreading the odor of the clothing.

    Best baselayer ever?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 180lbs

For fit, I am 6'2" 170lbs, Long torso, arms. I wear Medium. Larges are just too long and don't give the "next to skin" feel.

I love this shirt. I own 3 of them only because I use them nearly everyday from november to april.

    Stretchy, wicking, warm and breathable.
When warn standalone it keeps me warm even when drenched. I prefer to layer over a light compression shirt to speed up the wicking.
1\2 length zipper is great for venting.

I really miss the thumb holes the old funnel top had!

Now this is the most important feature I look for in a base layer:

It doesn't stink even if you wear it for a week straight. I know some people like the "feel" or the "warm to weight" ratio. But as a semi pro ski bum, I don't need to smell bad after touring day in and day out without the ability to do laundry.

    Take that capilene!!

    no complaints

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I use this shirt as a baselayer for snowboarding, as well as overnight backpacking trips. It does the job. It's held up well after nearly a year of use, no holes or signs of wear. I machine wash it like normal clothing, although when I first bought it I hung it up to dry. I am 5'11 and 150 lbs and bought the small, because I prefer my baselayers to be skin tight.

    Worth the $$

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I use this as a base layer to snowboard in, and love it. I didn't think I would like the zip top, but it comes in handy when you get hot. The mid weight felt perfect. Not too thin, not too heavy.

    It's Smartwool

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Smartwool midweight are my go to baselayer, they always get the job done. I like the standard crew for the most part, climbing and biking, but the 1/4 zip is great for cold weather hiking/mountaineering as you can super easily bleed off tons of heat.

    What happened???

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Used to love, love, love smartwool gear. I've got 4 or 5 NTS midweight that are 2-3 years old. They fit like a glove and held their shape. This latest one was incredibly baggy and seemed much thinner. Was a huge fan now I'm super disappointed. Not sure what happened but beware.

    Every Single Day Shirt

I recently purchased this for my father for his birthday and immediately had several more requested. He wore it hiking every day for a week and still didn't have anyone not sit next to him in the car. He was warm in the cold mornings when we set off, but stayed dry when the going got tougher.
