great!

I bought for an international backpacking trip, knowing I could count on it not getting stinky with multiple wears, and would be easy to rinse out overnight and be dry by morning. It was great for that purpose! It's warm when needed, but breathable and doesn't make me overheat. I'm sure I'll use it regularly for fall/winter/spring hiking and cross-country skiing here at home too.

Great fit.

This classic thermal looks sporty and fits great. Super soft and warm. Can’t wait to put this top to good use this winter.

Perfect Baselayer For All Conditions

I ended up getting a second one because it's so great and I wanted to switch off for back-to-back snow days. It's thick but breathable - perfect warmth under a mid-layer and shell layer for the chairlift, but wasn't ever too hot. The half zip is so nice to get more air in and not feel suffocated, and to zip up when it suddenly gets dark and cold.

Not happy with style changes

Over the decades, I have bought 5 of these tops. and like everything, the style has evolved. This version is crazy long, larger than the size small I bought 3 years ago, sleeves are 2 inches longer and the neck is much bigger around. None of these changes work for me. Maybe it is a mis-labeled Medium? I'm assuming that since I have worn and washed it, it is not returnable so I will put it in the dryer and hope it shrinks.

Warm & Comfortable

I love these SmartWool merino wool shirts. They are not itchy. The zipper is great. Perfect cold weather wear at a great price, so I bought 2. I have had them before and, eventually, they do wear out. I machine wash and hang to dry.

Love these for the winter months

Just received my latest shirt - Twilight blue this time - in the mail and already wearing it. Comfortable, warm, perfect. I practically live in these during the winter months. Can always layer up as needed. I wore my other shirts two weeks ago in Yosemite and they kept me warm. My daughter bought my first shirt for a Christmas present years ago and it still holds up. Never thought I could wear wool, since I always had a sensitivity to it. But after that first one, I discovered this is not the case with Smartwool.

Too large

I'm 5'4" and weigh 140lbs. My waist is about 28" and my chest is about 36". I ordered a medium and it's far too large. It won't work as a base layer. I'll have to return it. Besides the sizing issue, I liked this top.

I really like this top. It fits a pinch looser for their “slim fit”, but I find that works well for me and I can easily wear it as a top I wear out casually, or as a layered piece overtop my truly tight fitting slim fit baselayer.

Don’t like the new version

Completely agree with the previous comment. The cut of the shoulders is different and it doesn’t fit as good as the ones I have. It run MUCH LARGER ( see pictures, both are seize L). I love the brand and I have a few base layers that I wear everywhere, even to work. This one won’t do it and I will return it.

Disappointed by this year?s version

Familiarity:

First off, I have purchased several of these Smartwool 250 zip shirts over the years, and I love them. This one is of the same high quality in most ways - it?s warm, breathable, good construction, and runs true to size. The deep blue color is absolutely beautiful. My only complaint, and it?s worth taking off two stars to me, is the zipper pull. It?s bright white (in contrast to the dark top), and the word Smartwool ends up being obnoxiously noticeable, and close up by my face. This limits how I can wear this top it greatly. It might be fine for use a performance base layer, but I won?t wear it as a stand-alone shirt (like I often do with my others), which limits its functionality to me greatly. I will not wear this under a blazer for work, or even as a casual shirt, as I don?t like flashing brand labels and honestly the zipper pull cheapens the look of the garment.
