Poor quality

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

In 2009 I bought a pair of Smartwool glove liners to wear under waterproof mittens when skiing and by themselves when running. They were my go-to gloves and I used them every winter. So imagine my dismay when in fall 2019, I pulled them out of my coat closet and one of them had holes in it 😭 A moth had thoroughly enjoyed this wool. So I ordered a new pair of the same. I received the new pair and the fabric was stiff compared to my old pair, but I gave that a pass since they would probably soften up with wear. I tried them on and immediately felt knots in the tips of the thumbs and index fingers. This is a slim fitting glove so it's hard to ignore knots right on the part of your fingers where you pick up and hold things. Backcountry was great and swiftly sent out a replacement pair, but I found the same problems in the second pair. Sadly, the workmanship and/or quality of materials has noticeably declined since my original pair, which felt like a finer knit and had no seams or knots in noticeable places. My original pair was a great investment, lasting 10 years, but this current version is not a keeper. I will also add that the sizing runs larger than it used to. An XS was a perfect fit before, but there was some room to spare in the length of the fingers and in the palm in this version.

very low quality

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I am a long time wearer of Smartwool socks. They last forever, wash well, dry quickly, etc. etc., all of the things that I want out of a wool product. These gloves, unfortunately, seem to be made by a different company entirely. I wore them for ONE rainy weekend in Connecticut and they are completely pilled. They look terrible. They still feel fine, but I am seriously underwhelmed by the quality. I would have been better off buying a $5 pair of no-name woolies from the army surplus store. Caveat Emptor (...aka...BUYER BEWARE)!!!

Perfect LINER glove

These are great little liner gloves to layer under your mittens on a cold ski day or to keep your hands warm while you are cooking breakfast at camp in the shoulder seasons. The fingertips are screen compatible, so you don't have to expose your hands to send a text or change your playlist. I did make the mistake of wearing these LINER gloves out for a ski tour without layering something over them. The continual abrasion of my hands gripping my poles as I skinned put a lot of wear on the palm of the gloves. This could be easily avoided if the gloves are worn as liners (as they are advertised) or for activities that don't result in repeated rubbing (hiking without poles, cooking at camp etc.).

I love these gloves! They are very warm and light, perfect for running and hiking!

These gloves are the best!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

These gloves are so soft and comfy and exactly what I was looking for. When the temperatures are extreme, I put them inside my mittens, and my fingers and hands stay warm. When temps are less harsh, I wear them alone, and they are perfect. I absolutely love them and want to buy another pair!

Run a little big

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I gave these to my friend as a gift and this is her review: These liner gloves are XS but… they’re still too big for my child-sized hands. I have given up trying to find something smaller that is not actually made for children. I’ll keep them and hopefully they don’t annoy me too much. If they do, then I’ll have to give them away.

Great warm liners

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have always used the think synthetic liners in the past for skiing and riding. I found these liners to be much warmer, just slightly thicker, but provide just as much dexterity, and much like Smartwool ski socks, don't stink like the synthetics after a bit of use. Great product! Just picked up a pair for wife and kids. Sizing chart from Smartwool is right on target.

Life Savor

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

These Smartwool liners have been an absolute life saver. I have quality mittens but the addition of these liners has made my ski experience much better. I am able to use my smartphone while wearing them and even in negative 10 they stand up well. They do well against both dry and humid cold. I used them in Philly and Salt Lake Skiing both Alta and Brighton and they stood the cold well. I've gone through many liners and these are the best I have ever owned.

Pretty Versatile

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I replaced another pair of liner gloves with these and have found them to be much more versatile. They are great for cooking when you are camping on cold mornings and nights. They are also really nice for under mittens when you are skiing if you have cold hands like me !

Very bad, ripped after wearing once

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am very dissapointed with these gloves. They already have a hole in them after wearing once, how???? I just bought them last week! I can not reccommend these. Too bad because the gloves are not cheap and I really liked the look of them! (I had the grey onces). Maybe I had a bad pair or bad luck.. don't know!

Hey, I'm sorry these didn't work out for you! If you haven't already, I would recommend contacting our warranty team, they should be able to help you out with that! Please email warranty@backcountry.com with your order number, and the problem, and they will help you out!

Worn through in less than a season

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I ordered these at the start of the season, and they wore through in crux of the thumbs on both gloves within a two months. I use these for casual cold weather around town, camping and as a base for ski touring. I'm surprised as most of my experience with Smartwool socks is they've held up great. Unfortunately past the 30 day mark, so can't return them with BC.

good basic gloves

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

These gloves are great as liners. I really like the fit and the warmth. They would not be ideal for using them directly against trekking poles without a shell. Other than that, they are great.

my favorite winter gloves!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I purchased these gloves in black a year ago and LOVE them. This time I purchased the grey for my husband and he, too, loves them. They are a great glove for everyday wear in the winter and also a great liner for a warmer glove. The touchscreen function works really well, as long as the gloves are on tightly. Overall I love them and will probably purchase them again, but not for a while because mine have been worn daily for one-and-a-half winters and still look great.

OK, not great

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

As a simple liner, these were just fine, but no matter how I tried (and there aren't that many different ways to try) I couldn't get them to work on my phone. Disappointing.

Camp Gloves

Familiarity:

These gloves are great for backpacking. In the evening breeze great for sleeping and keeps your paws nice and cozy in the morning. Great oven mitts as well or a least picking up your hot boiling cup of water.
