Why We Like The Simms Pro Wading Staff
Swift water and slippery river bottoms call for extra traction and support—which the Simms Pro Wading Staff happily delivers. Its carbon and aluminum construction provides a light but dependable pole, and it’s quick and easy to deploy or pack away with a simple flick-lock that also lets us adjust the length from 47 to 56 inches. The wrist strap helps us hold on to the staff, keeps our hand and wrist in an ergonomic position, and connects to a retractor for added security. This potentially life-saving package helps us cross swift currents, check the depth around us, and feel our way through underwater hazards in stained water.

Carbon fiber and string
The most expensive wading staff in the world and it’s tyed on to the retractor with a bit of string. Come on Simms, do it right or don’t do it at all.

I guide on rivers in southwest Montana and they are very slick. I'm 66 and this wading staff allows me to keep my balance while giving instruction. I like the quick deployment and retraction. The tether allows me to keep moving without worry of losing the staff. It mounts right on to my Fishpond pack securely. Of course there's the Simms quality. What a great product!

Light and convenient
Pretty solid wading staff! Light, stable, relatively easy to deploy and easy to adjust. The holster has great mounting options for a waist pack which is where I put mine and the included retractor is a big bonus. The only niggle is that they holster is tight, making it a little tricky sometimes to get the staff back in after use.

This staff when folded is much to long to be comfortably carried in a belt holster. Making it with another section would make for a more manageable device when not deployed. Cannot be deployed with one hand unless the velcro strap has been undone prior to putting the folded staff into the holster. Holster doesn't easily attach to the wading belt and it's unclear why a buckle needs to be involved. The staff is light weight and the handle is comfortable and looks like it will last many seasons. But the lanyard system is messy and complex for such a simple task. A lot of loose cord and wrist strap to snag or come apart. The lanyard is permanently attached to the holster via a retractor. It would be nice to have a temporary attachment between the holster and the lanyard like a carabiner.

Hasn't been used
I haven't had a need to use it yet, so I can't taste it nor review it.

Pro wading staff
This is my 3rd pro wading staff. Love them. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that the grip has changed into a long, smooth handle with no notch coming out of it, which helps you grip it better. Definitely like the older style of handle with more of a pistol grip. Other than that, same great quality, and construction and strength

Just received it for my birthday. Opens and closes well. There should have been a male piece attached directly to the handle for a cleaner connection to the retractor. I am also concerned about the integrity of the small nipple protruding from the pointed end of the staff. It looks like it would break off easily. However, I am true to the Simms brand and expect that this staff will serve me well when I fish Montana next Fall

Great wading staff package!
First wading staff I have owned and glad I got it. Just used it this weekend fishing the Olympic Peninsula. Twice I got my value out of the staff, as I almost fell in crossing a river and the staff saved me and then used it to find the bottom on a sweet looking piece of silty water. Also makes a great hiking staff for those gnarly approaches down steep canyons. The staff is light and snaps together very quickly. The tether is a bonus and th rubber tip for sandy river bottoms is perfect.

Nicely designed
Very nice design. I removed hand strap and attached clip directly to pin used to attach the hand strap to shorten attachment point for quicker access.
