    The last pump you'll ever buy.

    When Silca first introduced its Pista floor pump, the mountain bike was just a glimmer in its father's eyes. That venerable pump became a cycling icon, still working after decades of service. However, the short fall was that it was designed before high-volume tires, and it missed the mark when you had to put 30+ psi in a downhill or 29er tire. However, Silca filled that niche with the introduction of the Super Pista Floor Pump.

    Compared to the traditional Pista, the Super Pista's larger air chamber provides 20% more volume, so you can fill those girth'y rubbers with a few quick strokes. The eight inch Beechwood handle is also a vast improvement over the former's tiny plastic handles. The Super Pista is taller as well, as to make life easy on your back when you need to top off a few sets of wheels at once.

    As stated above, Silca pumps are well-loved because they seem to last forever. And when something wears out after its first decade of use, you can replace it for a few dollars in order to add another decade to its lifespan. The Super Pista has a large base for greater stability, and the gauge is mounted down low, well out of harms way should the pump get knocked over. And you know it will get knocked over, but that's no big deal because the pump's housing is made of steel.

    The Silca Super Pista Floor Pump is available in the color Dark Grey and features a two-part head that can be used for either Presta or Schrader valves.

    Best Pump I've ever owned !

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I got so tired of cheap pumps. Especially the ones with a lever that smacks my thumb when I try and remove it from the Presta valve. Thought I give this pump a try, since I've seen rave reviews. This pump is da bomb ! Super well built. And the presta valve head that just presses on, and pulls off, is just what I wanted. This pump will last longer than I will !

    High-pressure? No problem!

    See my review of the Silca SuperPista Ultimate for a more lengthy review. With the SuperPista, for high-pressure uses, you're getting 99% of the perfection for 55% of the price, but it has limitations with low-pressure use ... not enough to make me lower my star-rating, because I still love the SuperPista, but it's not the best tool for getting those Dugasts dialed in at 19.5psi in the front and 20.5psi in the rear at your next cyclocross race.

    The Gold Standard

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I have one of the previous Pista models with the plastic (not wood) handle that is almost 40 years young. Parts are easy to get if you ever need 'em but most often pulling the plunger out and greasing/massaging the leather washer inside does the trick. The only other pump I'd consider would be the new, super ultimate Silca model made in the USA by the new owners of the venerable brand - otherwise get one of these before they're gone!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    Don't get me wrong, this is a really good pump, an enduring design, and mine is half a dozen years old. I'm also a latex tube junkie with 4 bikes around, so I pump a lot. The leather washer is what makes this pump work, and I'm on my 3rd. When, not if, your pump head breaks or won't work for you, don't waste your time with a Silca replacement - hunt down a Hirame or Tanaka pump head, or beat the rush and replace the stock head sooner.

    You don't need to replace the head, there is a washer in the head that periodically needs replacing as it wears. Just unscrew the cap off the head (side closest to the tire), take out the old washer and put in a new one. Good as new. The head is brass and won't ever wear out.

    Will the low pressure gauge from the ultimate pump fit this pump? [I own the ultimate with both gauges.]

    The gauge on the SuperPista is not readily replaceable like the gauge on the Ultimate. All of my bikes are relatively skinny tires, so I've never really needed the super low pressure readings (for fat bikes or really dialing in the CX tires to a particular psi level).
