Sierra Designs Cloud 800 Sleeping Bag: 20F Down

Ultralight comfort revelation.

With the Sierra Designs Cloud 20 Degree 800 DriDown Sleeping Bag, gone are the days of sacrificing comfort for ultralight efficiency. Now you can enjoy cloud-like comfort after long days of trekking, without being burdened with excess weight and bulk on the trail.

Its innovative zipperless design features a flap that lets you get in and out easily, but wraps around you when you're lying down in order to seal in precious heat. On warmer nights you can simply push the flap out of the way to vent your core. 800-fill DriDown insulation and 15D fabrics keep weight to a minimum while still packing plenty of warmth, and the down is treated for water-resistance to keep damp nights from leaving you shivering. A half-sleeve on the underside of the bag secures your sleeping pad to create one integrated unit that offers warmth retention and comfort.

Another ingenious features it the self-sealing foot vent, which lets you simply raise your knees and poke your toes out when you get stuffy, so you can cool off without messing with any pesky zippers. On the flip side, the adjustable hood easily cinches down to keep your head warm on frigid nights. Considering this bag's innovative design, reasonable price, and frankly incredible levels of warmth and comfort considering its weight, it doesn't seem hyperbolic to call the Cloud 20 a revolutionary achievement.

I love this sleeping bag!! It's incredibly well designed and produced. The zipperless design makes it feel like I have a quilt wrapped around me, and the self sealing foot vent is the perfect way for me to let cool air in without having to stick an entire leg out. Perfect for backpacking, couldn't recommend more.

Secret Pockets!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm a sleeper that likes to kick around and boy did I love that this bag could let you do that! There's an opening for you feet to poke out with out unzipping from the top. Not that you need to unzip the bag just lets you wrap your self up! This bag works for me I didn't test the temps that bad but it kept me toasty in mid temps. Honestly if you like to wiggle around this is for you. I will say that the fact you can strap your pad to the back of your bag is a cool feature but they don't have the insulation really on the back of the bag for the reason you're supposed to have the pad always there. Overall great cuddle bag.

Light and Warm

Pros: - Super lightweight bag, great for any backpacking mission. - Packs down to a very small size - Lack of zippers creates a less claustrophobic feel than some sleeping bags give me. More akin to the feeling of using a blanket in your bed. - The foot vent! such a great feature if you get a little too warm at night, just stick your foot/feet out of the hole near the bottom of the bag and instantly feel comfortable. Again, this is akin to sleeping in your bed with your normal comforter, where you might do the same on a hot summer night. Cons: - There is no insulation in the area where the sleeping pad sleeve is (You can see this in one of the detail photos on this product page) If you do not have a pad that fits the sleeve great, or if you for some reason have no pad at all, you won't have the best time sleeping in this bag on a cool night. I assume this was done to cut weight, and if you have the right pad (pretty much any decent pad will do) you will have no issues at all with this. Just a fair warning to make sure you have a good pad to go with this bag if you're interested in it 9/10, would def recommend!

I've used it several times

I loved using this bag and slept like a baby. It was incredibly light and packed down really nicely compared to other bags I've used. It was incredibly comfortable and warm without feeling too constricting while I slept.

Lotta good things in one warm cocoon

I've used it several times

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review Is my personal opinion. I used the Sierra Designs Cloud 800 Sleeping Bag: sleeping bag both for car camping and a spring mountaineering trip. I was initially surprised at the lack of a zipper, which quickly changed to excitement when I realized this meant no more stuck zippers in the middle of the night! The Cloud 800 Sleeping bag packs down to even smaller than advertised, so no complaints there. I am 5’6”, the regular size fits me well with room to spare. I tested this sleeping bag at one of the base camps for Mt. Baker. This sleeping bag is crazy cozy and held up well in the cold. Sierra Designs cut some weight by not insulating the underside of the top half of the sleeping bag, but instead having a place to slip it over the sleeping pad. I usually find my lower body is cooler in sleeping bags, since it is easy to thrown on an extra jacket, so I appreciate that the legs have a little extra warmth. It allows for use with a ¾ length sleeping pad. The foot vents are a nice addition, so it can be used on warmer nights. This feature combined with the ease of opening the upper portion makes overheating a non-issue. The Sierra Designs Cloud 800 will definitely be my go to bag for light alpine missions in the future!

Love it

I've used it several times

This bag is awesome. Super light, quiet, comfy and warm. What more do you want? The zipperless design is great for dumping heat not to mention, who like zippers?

So Awesome

I've used it several times

You won't want to get out of this thing. It's that comfortable. Sierra Designs has always been incredibly innovative when it comes to sleeping bags and tents, and the Cloud 800 is no exception. I've had their Backcountry Bed and Zissou models in the past, but the Cloud combines the two into an awesome mummy-style bag with a quilt feel (but without the possibility of drafts getting in like with the Backcountry Bed). I'd highly recommend this bag if you tend to get claustrophobic in traditional mummy bags, but need the warmth and packability that they provide.

No zippers is a dang good thang

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Can I tell you how nice it is to sleep like a baby, and not cry like one trying to get out of your bag in the middle of the night only to snag your zipper? No zipper, bed like qualities with a blanket style “top lid”. Haven’t tried it in real cold weather yet, but it’s done well so far at mid 30-mid 40 level since you can pull the blanket part off, and or vent your feet! Recommend sea to summit insulated pad for this as there is very little insulation in the bottom part of bag(mainly just back area...bottom part is ok). Meant to be a system so don’t skimp on your pad or you’ll regret it.

Too Comfortable

I've used it several times

I really love using this bag. I move around a lot in my sleep and the sleeve in the back keeps this bag on my pad. With the cool way it opens, it is also really easy to get in and out of.

Would the sleeve fit a Big Agnes Q-core SLX pad? (20 inch wide, 4 inch thick)
