SH-RP4 Cycling Shoe

We had to do a double take when we looked at Shimano's SH-RP4 Cycling Shoe. A Boa dial closure and it comes in at under $125? That's very impressive to say the least. We're already big fans of its shoes and we'd have no reservations recommending these shoes if your old ones have given up the ghost or it might be your first clipless go around.

Up top, it uses a high-density, low maintenance synthetic leather upper with perforations that help improve the fit and increase its breathability. That before mentioned Boa L6 dial closure offering quick and micro-adjustments of the upper most offset strap works in conjunction with the two lower hook-and-loop closure straps to provide an impressive foothold without excessive pressure. Down below, the lightweight glass-fiber reinforced nylon sole gets the power to the pedals and its wide heel pad helps prevent the floor at the coffee shop from turning into a skating rink.

Nice shoe for the price

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:

Not quite a carbon shoe but feels pretty close. I did find that the size 46 ran smaller than my other 46 Shimano shoes. It was marked US 11.2 whereas other Shimano shoes are marked 11.5. I exchanged for US 47. Toe box is wide, which I like, but the shoe does not feel sloppy.

Great shoe

This is my first pair of cycling shoes so I don't have anything to compare to. They are light on my feet and the boa does an excellent job preventing any movement. The toe box is wide. I have narrow feet and always wear Nike size 8 running shoes. I would recommend getting a size 41 instead of 42 because of the extra toe room. But even with the extra space, the shoes have zero movement and offer a good transfer of power when clipped in. They have large vents in the toe area under the foot, it lets in quite a large amount of cool air and to be honest, my toes got chilly a few times on late evening rides in the mountains. (wearing thin Oakley bike socks)
