Plunging down the rabbit hole of which cycling shoes to buy just might consume your entire afternoon if you aren't careful, but getting a shoe that's comfortable, versatile, and functional when you're just starting out isn't as complicated as it might seem. Take Shimano's SH-RP2 Cycling Shoe, for example; with a women's-specific fit and simple, effective design, it won't require you to shake every last coin out of your wallet to get out comfortably on the roads.
Shimano uses a design that's compatible with both two- and three-bolt cleats for the SH-RP2, so if you're transitioning from spin classes to outdoor riding, this shoe will be able to do both. While you pedal, the ventilated upper will keep air moving between your toes, while the fiberglass-reinforced nylon sole dutifully works to transfer power from your feet to the pedals. If you've ever spent a ride with squished toes or a numb instep, you'll be grateful for the two hook-and-loop straps and ratcheting buckle design on the SH-RP2, allowing you to achieve a secure fit without any painful pressure points.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This is Tyson's wife. These shoes are exactly what I needed - I was looking for a less-expensive shoe that I could use in my indoor cycling classes. I ordered some Shimano SH51 SPD Cleats to go with these and it's worked out great so far. They are a bit tight but that's what you want in a cycling shoe so it's not a huge complaint. I have pretty narrow feet so I think if you have a wider foot you may want to consider something more roomy, or maybe size up.
Great spin shoe

Got these for a friend, but here are her thoughts:
These are great shoes for my spin class! Super easy to get in and out of, good neutral color so I don't look ridiculous, and SPD compatibility for most spin classes! In hindsight, I mightve gone for the mountain version so the cleat was recessed on the sole so I slip around, but I just dont put them on until im next to my spin bike.
