Why We Like The ME702 Cycling Shoe

Shimano's ME702 all-mountain shoe finds a unique balance of blending XC lightness with enduro durability in an value-oriented package. The synthetic upper of the ME702 buckles down for a comfortable, secure fit, without sacrificing much to more performance-focused dials closures. And the speed laces tuck nicely under the top cover. A Michelin rubber sole provides traction for footing in the berms as well as stiffness for the accelerations.

A reinforced heel stabilizer holds your feet in place to ensure you don't lose any power on challenging ascents, while the carbon midsole keeps things responsive and lightweight. And made on Shimano's Volume+ Last, the ME702 offers a bit more wiggle room in the toe box for comfort on bashy root and rock gardens.

Runs Small

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Ordered a 46 but it was really small. On the box it said US 10.5. Way off!

i bought these shoes in april of 2021. excellent on the bike and decent when hike-a-biking off the bike. my only complaint is that the velcro has continuously gotten less sticky and now just mostly flaps around. ive tried cleaning the velcro and it didnt seem to help. im trying to figure out a way to fix this... i may just permanently seal the flap. would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the velcro.

One big flaw with this shoe

There’s one big flaw with this shoe: the top buckle strap stretches and loosens with use. I found that I have to stop every 20 min or so to retighten the strap. Very frustrating. Also, after only 3 months of use the strap has permanently stretched and even when I tighten the buckle all the way it still feels loose. Given the price point, I expected more from Shimano. They need to fix this because it’s a great shoe otherwise.

Ordered these Shimano MTB shoes for wet weather riding with a bit of hesitation due to price. Turns out these things are great for all types of conditions. Fit is great, comfortable and keep feet dry . Love the ratchet system as it is simple and quick.Ankle gaiter keeps dirt out of shoe which is an added bonus. You won?t regret spending the extra cash for these bad boys!

Shoes were specific for Enduro ridding as the description says, the easy strap broke off on the 3rd ride? How? Idk, was ridding some gnarly stuff on the DH when I noticed my foot felt loose that the buckle to the strap was broken off. I mean for the amount of money they cost you expect the best quality. I could expect this incident in a year of riding but 3 rides ? Really ?! Was very disappointed and I still had 10 more miles to climb. Good thing Backcountry was very professional and handle the situation quick and sent me a new pair asap. 3 stars for comfort, look, stiffness, minus 2 stars for the quality of the strapping system.

No shoe is perfect. And when I boughty first pair of these last year I removed to lace cover and gaiter just to improve the ventilation. But after a year on them and trying other things in similar style, I can say these outshine the competition by far. First and foremost the cleat mounts directly to the shoe and doesn't have that weird recess channel like everyone else is doing. Gives you a low stack, no need to shim anything and a very good pedal feel. Second the cleat placement is centered unlike others that seem to move it inboard and give you make you feel like you're standing on the outside of your pedals. This year Shimano didn't do half sizes and I was disappointed but with the right insoles the 46 works well for me (previously had a 45.5, 11-11.5 street shoe). If you use a flatter or the stock insoles your feet spread out more in the shoe. A more arched insole and you can fit a little smaller shoe. I've ridden the previous version everywhere from DH park to Moab. They are incredibly durable and the soles look great after a year. But the thing I like most is the balance between flexibility and stiffness. They pedal excellent but give you some flexibility to twist your feet during bike control. They don't have that dead stiff feel....just right. These new ones have a little better ventilation. And while I thought I'd want a boa, I have broken a boa on the trail. Something that won't happen with these. A great shoe for everything! Thank you Shimano!
