SH-AM7 Cycling Shoe

The Shimano SH-AM7 Mountain Bike Shoes graced many flat-loving feet last year, but left many of us clipless loving riders sitting on the sidelines, jealous of the stile and versatility the shoes provided. Not to worry, this year the new SH-AM7 shoes come in with sleek updates, and cleat compatibility for increased pedaling power up punchy climbs and maneuvering through tight tree lines.

The uppers on the SH-AM7 got a refreshing step up this year, while still using Shimano's durable synthetic leather, but opening up mesh panels for breathability, and omitting the lace-guard that trapped heat in on toasty days, leaving our feet feeling all too warm inside. Now we find a comfortable breeze gracing our toes to fight hot-foot and keep us hammering up and down trails all day. Another change occurred at the ankle, adding the same stretch mesh that you'll find on the SH-ME7's adding a cuff that keeps rocks and trail debris from making its way into your shoe mid ride. Inside, you'll find largely the same construction, with the same fit and supportive insole to keep your arch and heel feeling good all day. The sole uses the same Vibram rubber as last year's flat version, but with the additional recessed cleat mount that sits out of the way for when hiking a bike is a must, allowing you to enjoy the same tacky traction as before, when the rubber hits the trail.

  • Redesigned enduro shoes for clipless riders
  • Uppers updated with mesh for breathability
  • Stretch mesh ankle collar keeps rocks and debris out
  • Tacky Vibram rubber offers huge traction
  • Molded toe cap protects your little piggies
  • Cup insole supports heel and arch all day
  • Recessed cleat channel for stable pedal platform when not clipped in
  • Item #SHI00F0

A decent shoe for the value

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
True to size

47 (wear size 12 and they fit)

I've just gotten back into more serious riding and bought a pair of the Shimano SH-AM7's for my trail rides. So far they're a decent selection though compared to the Pearl iZumi X-Alp I also purchased the Shimano's fall a bit short. The AM7's benefit from the top Velcro band to collect the laces, unlike the X-Alps that use an elastic band down the lacing a bit further. Shortcomings are mostly that the AM7's are a bit clunky. I also need to shim my clips in order to engage the pedals, but this probably means the tread will wear a bit longer so not too big a deal.

Excellently designed and very comfortabl

I've used it several times

Wanted technical mtb specific shoes with protection and that appealed to me in style. Liked the grey and blue color so these shoes caught my attention. But what interested me is the reviews I read and later to learn that Outdoor magazine recommended these. Saw other brands but im not one moved by latest trends or something "everyone" has. Once I began wearing these shoes I felt awkward since I never owned mtb specific shoes and these have strategic raised areas I didnt realize are purposely designed for maximum efficiency while pedaling. After the 3rd or 4th time riding with these shoes I literally could feel how much more efficient I rode steep areas; as if I had sudden surge of power riding up. Was amazed that the weird raised areas which are at the bottom of the soles really do function as they were designed to do. The purpose of the design is no gimmick. These shoes are one of the best investments that greatly have enhanced my riding experience. If I had known how big of a difference these mtb specific shoes have made in enjoying my riding experience I would have purchased such shoes few years ago. This is something that has made a huge difference for the better. I'm glad I read reviews and researched before buying these shoes. Popularity and what the majority is buying definitely is at the bottom of my list so I'm glad those things weren't part of my decision. I dont ride clipless but I've managed to keep the shoes from constantly slipping off the pedals. Havent watched tv over 5 years so Im least persuaded by commercialism and brand loyalty but I'd definitely recommend these shoes and not because they're Shimano. But I'm certain that a company that's directly involved with bicyling like Shimano and thats been in business for such a long time would know alot about what they're doing..and these shoes attest to this. These aren't just mtb shoes but very well thought out and engineered to do more than protect.

Literally every biker I know is riding 510 shoes right now. When I got my 510's, it took months to break them in. Every ride during that period, my feet would be killing me after just a few hours. Not good as I do long rides. It was an awful break in period. These shimano shoes had no break in period. I got the US size 8.9 which is smaller than I normally get in other shoes, but they fit great. Nice and snug, but not too snug. The width was just right for my feet. So I put my cleats on and did a 5.5 hour bike ride. No pain at the end of the ride. Everything felt great! And no dirt in my shoes! That little dirt shield really works. That was a big problems, I'd always get tons of dirt in my 510s on every ride. I would definitely recommend this shoe!!

What size do you normally wear and do you mean you bought a 8.5? (I assume so because I've never heard of 8.9)?

I've been riding "XC" style shoes for decades and have been looking for something easier to walk in and more comfortable for a while. Ordered specialized 2FO cliplite in my usual size 42 and also 43. Both were narrow to the point of being painful while just sitting on the couch. Also tried several models of 5.10 shoes at a major chain and, while better, they were also giving me pressure points just behind the toes. Then I ordered these. THANK YOU SHIMANO for making your shoes in a realistic width! They have zero hot spots or annoying seams. Pedal area is plenty stiff but they are very comfy for walking short distances. Tongue is perfect thickness and density. The gaitor looks goofy in photos but you don't notice it when they're on you (could also easily cut them off without damaging the shoes if you want). The only minor gripe is that you have to step on the velcro strap to keep it out of the way when you are tying the laces, or, not lace them all the way up.
