Whether you're kitting out a brand-new frameset or looking to upgrade your brakes, this set boasts Shimano's renowned precision and reliability at a price point that won't set your savings back for years.

    Mirroring Shimano's traditional 105 STI levers, the RS505 levers provide precise shifts and light action, with reach adjustment for compatibility with a wide range of hand sizes. Compared with Shimano's other hydro levers, this version gains a little bit of bulk out front to house the hydraulic fluid reservoir above the brake lever, but it still leaves the usable brake hood area with a refreshingly streamlined and comfortably ergonomic shape.

    As with all revolutionary innovations over the past decade (11-speed, electronic shifting, etc.), we admit to harboring some initial skepticism about whether or not disc brakes are worth the fuss; however, there are two undeniable advantages that you'll notice after just minutes riding with disc brakes.

    First, they're consistent, regardless of conditions and circumstances. There's no waiting breathlessly for the pads to clear the rim of water or debris before grabbing. They also eliminate panic when you're caught in the drops and confronted with a sudden obstacle like a darting bunny rabbit or a car peeking out of a blind driveway. The brakes will still slow you down, even if you don't have time to get a full purchase on the lever. The RS505 calipers also feature Shimano's IceTech technology, which dissipates heat via cooling fins in the braking pads to help the brakes grab faster while also increasing pad life.

    Stupid good deal

    This is an amazing deal. They are a bit heavy and the shifters are quite bulkier then the standard cable operated ones. See pictures of this held up beside a standard ultegra set. Really well done kit comes with everything you need then some. Have not used them yet my frame is still in the mail but I'm sure they are going to be perfect. Beware may be uncomfortable for small hands because of bulk

    I've recently finished installing this kit and this review is more focused on elaborating on what's included as opposed to covering my impressions on functionality.

    Overall, it's a nice kit that comes with just about everything you need to convert from mechanical to hydraulic disc brakes.

    This isn't a comprehensive list, but the kit does contain:
    - Levers, post-mount calipers (yes, with brake pads) and the necessary hardware to fasten them. Also includes bleed blocks.
    - Two hoses, one short, one long (front and rear) and the necessary connectors (olives, connecting bolts, hose inserts)
    - shift cables and housings
    - Two 50mL bottles of Shimano mineral oil/brake fluid (I had about 35mL left over after filling/bleeding the system)

    The one purchase that i would recommend to go along with this conversion kit is the basic Shimano bleed kit.

    Also take the time to download and look over the technical/install manual online - it's not provided in the documentation with the kit (

    If you have a bit of mechanical aptitude, installing this shouldn't be too big of a challenge, but I would recommend breaking it up over 2 or three sessions, because it might be a little daunting otherwise.

    I already run an 11 speed mechanical disc brake, what else would I need to get in order to upgrade to this set.
