AM7 Mountain Bike Shoe
The uppers on the SH-AM7 got a refreshing step up this year, while still using Shimano's durable synthetic leather, but opening up mesh panels for breathability, and omitting the lace-guard that trapped heat in on toasty days, leaving our feet feeling all too warm inside. Now we find a comfortable breeze gracing our toes to fight hot-foot and keep us hammering up and down trails all day. Another change occurred at the ankle, adding the same stretch mesh that you'll find on the SH-ME7's adding a cuff that keeps rocks and trail debris from making its way into your shoe mid ride. Inside, you'll find largely the same construction, with the same fit and supportive insole to keep your arch and heel feeling good all day. The sole uses the same Vibram rubber as last year's flat version, but with the additional recessed cleat mount that sits out of the way for when hiking a bike is a must, allowing you to enjoy the same tacky traction as before, when the rubber hits the trail.

- I've put it through the wringer
- True to size
I finally switched from some super old-school style shoes to these and I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. My toes certainly thank me. I have fairly narrow feet with a low instep and these give me enough security and a close fit while still being able to wiggle my toes in the toe box. Much appreciated. I found they fit true to size and they feel sturdy and give enough support when I'm pedaling uphill or coming back down. I like the stretchy bit around the achilles for added comfort and to prevent rocks from getting in there. The laces tuck nicely into a band so you're not at risk of them getting caught in your crankset. I docked one star because I wish they had more ventilation. I've been biking in UT all summer and, especially the couple times I've ridden lifts, I can feel my toes baking in the sun. The toe box is completely solid impermeable material.

- I've used it several times
- Runs large
I'm fairly new to MTB so these shoes may be great, I just am not a huge fan of these kind of shoes (I'd rather have something lighter and less chunky feeling). Definitely wish I had sized slightly down there seems to be too much space in the heel of my foot. Bought true to size. Been on several longer rides with these and they've held up great and saved me from a few injuries.

Wanted to keep but didn't fit me

These seemed like great shoes, likely capable of flat and clipless riding, but unfortunately they did not work for me. I love that they are lace-up, but the laces end about half way up your foot and then there is the strap. The strap kind of digs into your foot/ankle area when you flex or if you were walking up steep stairs/rocks. This might soften/break-in over time so it was not a deal breaker. The big issue was the width of the shoe and sizing, it definitely runs wide and large which leaves too much room for my foot to wiggle around. I don't have narrow feet, maybe on the narrow side of average, but still quite normal. I really wanted to keep these, but I also don't want to twist my foot due to the wiggle room while riding or hiking my bike when the time comes. I'm going to try a half size down and see if that helps because I love everything else about this shoe, but it may be too small lengthwise.
