    Pedals get no respect.

Pedals are one of the unsexiest parts of your bike, so you'd be forgiven for forgetting about them, but you'll remember in a hurry if they break when you're 20 miles from home. That said, you don't want a pedal to weigh six pounds, either. The everything wizards at Shimano solved that dilemma with the 105 PD-5800 pedal, a strong and durable pedal that brings the weight savings of carbon to the party, all at a price you can actually live with.

Shimano didn't use pure carbon fiber for the PD-5800, but instead thought up a carbon composite that's almost as light and more resistant to damage. Where the cleat and pedal meet, a stainless steel plate increases strength and provides a wide platform that helps increase power and stability. The cleat itself is Shimano's classic SPD-SL, perfect for all-around use, and the included "Yellow" version has three degrees of float for easy dismounts (if you want more latitude, you can swap it out for versions that offer more or less float). Shimano also thoughtfully designed the cleat for easy walking, so you don't take a digger onto your face when you walk into the café trying to look all cool for the barista.

    Ideal and great price

Great pedals, great price point and actually very similar than ultegra's or dura ace's, if you dont mind on weight and want to save some money, this is the answer for you

    Meat and Potatoes

This is a road bike pedal, it spins smoothly and will last you many seasons barring any unfortunate crashes. There is a reason Shimano pedals are so popular, they work, they don't creak, or wear out prematurely, you can install these on your bike and put in thousands of miles season after season without issue. I may be nit picking, but I feel like the Ultegra and Dura Ace versions may be a little stiffer, particularly the Dura Ace version, but I am really splitting hairs with that claim.
All in all, this is just a great pedal.

    Shimano rules!

Shimano does it again with this pedal. My first road pedals and this is a great option. I highly recommend to someone who is getting into road cycling but doesn't want to bust the wallet on high end pedals.

      Old Reliable

Shimano makes the most durable pedal ever, no question. The 105 is a great value option that is as durable as Ultegra or Dura-Ace, without carrying the same price tag. They're a bit heavier than those two options, but are still relatively lightweight and the best bang for your buck option from Shimano.

      Solid Road Pedal

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've been using Shimano MTB-style pedals for the last couple years and finally decided to make the jump to road-specific pedals and shoes. I mainly commute to work and back with longer weekend rides here and there. Haven't actually ridden them yet but I mounted them last night and I think I'm going to be stoked. They seem light and smooth and are easy to adjust for your preferred amount of tension. Can't wait to get out on them!

Update: After half a dozen rides, I am really hyped on these! Using them with the blue/1 degree float Shimano pedals and the Giro Empire ACC shoes. Perfect combo for me so far. They're feeling really smooth, comfortable and secure when pedaling and the dismount is a breeze.

      Great overall pedal

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am new to cycling and so i looked for some time before pulling the trigger, i gave these five stars because they do exactly what i need them to do. They are not the lightest or fastest but they don't require much maintenance and are great for my expertise.
