Love this

I actually use it to transport my dogs food during traveling. But it works great, and it's well made

Water proof bear bag

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This a good bear bag. A lighter and smaller option to bear canisters, and a water proof option compared to most other dedicated bear bags. It is very easy to clip this bag to your rope and hang from a tree. It is lined with a trash bag that can be replaced. I hung my food out in 25 degree weather where frost accumulated on the outside but the inside remained dry. If you need a water proof bear bag for any climate, buy this bag. Pair it with reflective 3mm rope and you have a perfect ultralight set up.

Seems to work well

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Picked this up last minute to use as a food bag for bear hang. Sealed up tight, no smell seemed to leak out. On our second night out we had a bad thunderstorm with hail and when we took it down in the morning everything stayed dry inside. Seems pretty durable but only time will tell!

Keeps your pack clean

This is great for packing out trash. you can tie it onto the outside of your pack so you don't run the risk of having trash leak all over the stuff in your pack.

Great for pack outs

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This item is great for northern mn, we canoe in and pack everything out, so it tends to smell by the last day and this eliminates it!

Pack it out in style

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've always just used plastic garbage bags to pack out my trash... usually leading to unpleasant odors and leakage making their way into my pack. This thing takes care of both of those issues. There are ample attachment points to secure it to your pack or hang it out of reach of curious animals.

Haven't really used it...

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got one of these thinking what a great idea! However in reality, I have found that the trips that I'm likely to use it on, typically journey biased stuff, my rubbish is very minimal as I have minimal packaging and an empty peanut butter jar is my rubbish pot, normally lasts for 3 weeks. I can't say I can recommend it, but that's because of how I operate in the field. The few times I have used it, it have done exactly what it claims to be able to do.

Exactly what I needed

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

So after years of carrying my food in various plastic bags and reusing them as trash bags this was a good go to. Great material and keeps the smell out a whole lot more!!

Perfect

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The trash dry sack is great. Took it out for the first time recently on the AT. The garbage bag liner keeps any smells from leaching into your backpack if you choose to carry inside. Easy to attach to the outside of a pack as well. Well worth it.

Size listed is wrong

The size listed is bigger than it's actual size, on the packaging it has 2 different sizes listed. If you are using this as a trash sack, you probably would not care, but I needed a specific size for an item to fit inside it, so it did not work for me as it was misleadingly too small. Packaging error was what the company told me for why it had 2 different sizes listed on the packaging.

Keeps your pack clean

Great to take to store food in and keep wrappers in one place. Perfect for hanging in the tree to keep the bears out its waterproof so the dew and rain won't soak your food. The best choice for food storage cause it rolls up however small you need it.

Is this a good consideration for a food...

Is this a good consideration for a food sack or there other better STS options? I need a food sack for a 4 day/3 night trip. The sack will include my cookset (Optimus Crux & weekender) and mostly Mountain Home meals.

Are you looking specifically for StS selections, or are you willing to consider other alternatives? Also, are you going to be needing something that will prevent critters and varmint from stealing your food in the evening while you sleep, or are neither of those potential liabilities? If they are, and you are feeling a bit lenient towards consideration of brands other than StS, I would look into the Ursack Minor (if your concern rests primarily with rodents) or the Ursack Major (if you are worried about larger animals (i.e. bears)). Can bears smell through this bag?

Can bears smell through this bag?

You won't be able to smell through this sack but bears can smell through almost any material especially if they're hungry. I suggest a bear-proof container or when in doubt, hang!
