Stay bite and disease free wherever you travel.

When your trek takes you through a disease-infested bug habitat, don’t take any chances when you wear the Sea To Summit Bug Jacket w/ Insect Shield. The olive green No-See-Um mesh prevents the smallest winged creatures from getting in when you tighten the cuffs and waist, and treated with permethrin Insect Shield to deter them from coming close. The zip-on hood features black mesh for increased visibility. The pant and jacket are sold separately, but when worn together over your clothes they offer ultimate bug protection with attached mitts and socks, so no bug can have a taste of your sweet blood. The convenient storage pouch stows the lightweight protection when you clear the buggy terrain.

    Great alternative to bug spray

If you are going to be in an area notorious for bugs this jacket is a great alternative to bathing yourself in DEET. I used this jacket, as well as the matching pants, on the first day of a five day river trip down Desolation Canyon on a section of river that is known to be saturated with mosquitos. It worked really well and I only really got bitten on uncovered skin on my hands (I opted not to wear the included mittens as the fit was really odd and not anatomically correct at all), I probably could have been bite free if I had used the jacket in combination with bug spray. It was nearly 100 degrees, so I appreciated how lightweight and breezy this was for the most part, but naturally the hood can get a little bit claustrophobic after an extended period of time. The jacket was super quick and easy to throw on over my other clothes, and it has a zippered opening around the front of the neck which allows you to drop the hood back and allows for the consumption beverages without taking the whole jacket off. The fit was pretty good, but the arms seemed a little bit short (even for my T-Rex arms).

If you hate bugs, this jacket a life saver and it is really nice not to have to worry about applying and re-applying bug spray.

      its ok

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

if you really dont like bugs landing on you, then you need one of these. I wore this bug outfit over regular clothes, and if I had a couple layers on, mosquitoes couldnt really bite me.

      Saved me!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used this hiking the John Muir trail. Very lightweight and does the job. If you are hiking in heat and wearing this you will be hot. BUT fellow hikers were envious of my protection.

      Envy of the Crew

When you encounter prehistoric sized mosquito swarms like we did, you only have a few options. You can cover your face and skin in high-strength (read ‘high-poison’) DEET, you can wear the Sea to Summit Bug Jacket, or you can retreat back to civilization. Not willing to leave our alpine paradise, we gladly went with the second choice. Yes you will look foolish and your friends will mock you in the beginning, but by the end of the trip it’s guaranteed to be the envy of the crew. Plus, it packs up tiny and weighs nothing, so you can always bring it along just in case.

      Envy of the Crew

Not exactly what I was hoping for

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Mosquitos love me!!! I got this thinking that I would be immune to those little vampires... immune may not quite be the right word in this situation. They definitely do help with the bugs, but by no means are 100% in the clear. When the mesh lays against your skin the mosquitos can still land do their drilling. In extreme insect encounters this combined with some bug spray is a pretty good way to go. The built in hood is pretty cool on this jacket, really seals you in. Not sure how I feel about the mittens yet.
