Traditional, yet thoroughly modern.
Reminiscent of vintage cycling shoes, the Scott Men's Road RC Lace Shoe ditches buckles, dials, and straps for the classic style of a traditional lace-up design. Many riders prefer the clean look and infinite adjustability of traditional laces, making the Road RC Lace Shoe a great alternative to the busy designs of modern riding shoes.
However, that's just about where the shoe's old-fashioned design stops. It's equipped with many of Scott's premier technologies, including a powerful HMX Carbon sole that transfers every available watt of rider input into forward locomotion. This ultra-stiff sole is ideal for both high-cadence training rides and racing where pedaling efficiency and speed are paramount.
Incredibly lightweight and form-fitting, the upper is crafted from microfiber and breathable air mesh. Another one of its stand-out features, the ErgoLogic footbed provides customizable support without the nasty hot spots you've become accustomed to with one-size-fits-all insoles. Scott achieves this by providing an adjustable footbed system that tailors its fit to your particular foot size and shape, regardless of your arch shape or foot volume.

My first thought about these shoes was "Wow, they look *good*!". I've always liked the Giro Empire's looks, but never loved it. These, love at first sight! They're amazingly comfortable (as most lace-ups are), especially with the lacing slightly offset to the outside of the shoe.
The flex rating is a 9 (compared to an 11-13 for shoes like the Sidi wire and Pearl Izumi PRO Leader III), but they still feel more than adequate for everything outside of 1,200+ watt sprint efforts.
The abundant perforation combined with the lace's ability to stretch just a bit will definitely be a major plus for long rides on hot days (#swollenfeet).
I would call the toe box a "standard" shape: not too tapered, but not too square. The height at the end of the toe box seems just right too, compared to others I've had that have too much room.
You will need to snug the laces down pretty tight to start out, which takes just a little getting used to. Once the shoes warm up a bit however, the need to tighten and loosen them during the ride should not arise.
