    Tie your shoes.

Now that laces are back in a big way, Scott believes roadies shouldn't get to have all the fun. Whether you race on smooth singletrack or run your kicks up stairs and through sand pits, you'll enjoy fast power transfer and a secure, adaptable fit with the Scott MTB RC Lace Shoe. This lightweight shoe adapts equally well to the rigors of XC rides or 'cross races, using laser-cut microfiber uppers cut in an asymmetrical pattern to provide a contoured, wrap-like fit around your foot that stays glued in place during a race.

Racing's a sweaty venture, so Scott also integrates breathable mesh along the shoe's uppers to keep air moving while you grind it out. Inside the shoe, Scott's adjustable ErgoLogic footbed makes an appearance as well, allowing you to fine-tune the arch support the shoe gives you, or remove it entirely if you prefer. Tasked with delivering your hard-won watts to the pedals, the HMX carbon fiber outsole provides uncompromising stiffness and rigidity when you can't afford to waste energy. While it doesn't suit the shoe as well to long trail rides and hike-a-bikes, the carbon fiber sole is exactly what you want on your side when you're two laps from the finish and can feel your energy waning heading into a brutal climb.

    • Dominate the 'cross course in this energetic, light race shoe
    • Classic lace-up closure allows for a nearly custom fit
    • Breathable uppers keep air moving as you race
    • Rigid carbon fiber outsole dutifully transfers watts to the pedals
    • Slightly lugged outsole provides extra traction without bulk
    • Item #SCO00K0

    Super comfy shoes.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These shoes fit my average volume, wide forefoot (105mm) feet well. They have more width across the metatarsals than Specialized or Sidi and are close in width to Shimano, with what feels to me like a narrower (but not excessively narrow) heel. I have not had the lace eyelet issue described in other reviews, but I also don't have 1000 miles on them yet.

Laces - I thought they would be a win...

I was riding the boa version of the SCOTT MTB RC shoe. Got about 3 seasons on those before the boas failed in a way that couldn't be repaired. Scott gave me crash replacement and I chose to go with the Lace Up version to avoid the boa issues. They have almost exactly 1 season on the shoes (~3.2K miles) and the eyelets are failing. Just like reviewer KF below, since the eyelets are not reinforced, the laces sliding through the eyelets are either stretching or abrading or something and the eyelets are failing. I love the fit of the Scott shoes, but man, I'm being killed on the quality side of this relationship...

    questionable durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

been using these for a little over a month, probably have about dozen rides in them. when i went to lace them up this morning, one of the eyelets ripped. very comfortable and adjustable while they lasted. used them both on and off road. apart from the durability issues, the only other negative would be that they don't have the grippiest sole. will admit, i'm kinda bummed - really enjoyed these shoes until the eyelet ripped. hopefully, backcountry or scott will remedy the situation.
contacted them both this morning and as of this evening i haven't heard back from either.,
UPDATE: Scott will not deal direct with warranty issue, have to go thru retailer. it's been 2 days since i contacted backcountry and so far the only response i have gotten is a generic email telling me not to contact them again until someone has contacted me. i have been incredibly successful in getting thru to sales reps, but no luck with the warranty department. i guess there is something to be said for dealing with local retailers.

I struggle with shoes. I have a wide forefoot but not really a high volume shoe. I have generally gone with GIRO HV shoes but they've never been quite right. These fit me perfect. They accommodate my forefoot and provide a great fit. The lace up looks sharp as well. The rubber soles provide security on hike a bikes or rough terrain if needed. Durability seems good so far.

as a back note, I have owned several pairs of the Giro Empire road and mountain shoe, but got a pair of these and fell in love! The asymmetrical lacing is great and alleviates pressure points on the top of the foot that i would struggle with in other lace up shoes. The rubber sole is great for walking in off the bike, but it is still as stiff as any other XC shoe I have owned. Plus the Lace styling looks rad. absolutely recommend!
