    The PaceStar Triple Compound that Schwalbe puts on the 29in Rocket Ron Tire is actually three compounds combined. Schwalbe recognizes that one compound isn't sufficient for all applications, so it gave the Rocket Ron different properties at different parts of the tire for a fast-rolling center strip, tacky shoulders for grabbing corners and trail furniture, and durable sidewalls. Whatever your XC or trail needs, the Rocket Ron is ready to rock.

    The tread profile falls between the crass lumpiness of Schwalbe's Nobby Nic and the speed-focused Racing Ralph, hitting the sweet spot of traction, debris clearance, and low rolling resistance. Rock the Evo casing when you're gunning for the podium, or pop on the SnakeSkin for extra armor on an enduro assault.

    Decent Dry and Rocky terrain tire

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I ride mostly dry rocky terrain. Central Texas limestone.
    Here are the pro's -
    It corners and grips well on climbs and descents, when it's dry. They are relatively light compared to the competition. The TL version are pretty painless to set up tubeless on Stan's and Nox rims.

    Here are the Con's-
    If there's any moisture or mud these tires are a epic fail. Pack up quickly with mud and give little to no traction when it's slick. It doesn't matter what direction you are going , up or down.

    Here are the whatever's -
    The tires hold up as well as any others (Specialized or Bontrager) . After about 200-300 hours of riding I have had them start weeping sealant down the center of the tread, about 2 ounces per week. They just give up the ghost. The Snakeskin sidewalls are a must if you ride anywhere there are sharp rocks. My Scott Spark came with the non- Snakeskin version, and they lasted about 2 weeks.

    To wrap it up, I like them for the conditions that I ride in, but they are not a Do All tire.

    I will admit that I did not buy these tires from Competitive Cyclist, but they came stock on my new Scott Spark-- honestly, these tires suck! I was taking the rear tire off yesterday in order to patch it due to hole that stan's would not plug and noticed that the side tread blocks were literally coming off--- what? This was not just a few blocks, but numerous blocks on the outside of both sides of the tire- and this is an $80 tire????
    Additionally, the tire is prone to getting punctures as compared to other tires I have run.
    I took the tire off and put a Conti on it that I have had NO problems with-- will not be ordering any Rocket Rons in the future. Thanks.

    Impressed so far

    I like to try out different tires when possible. This tire looks like it will be a fun tire to try out. Will report back after i've put some miles on it.

    Not my jam

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    I am sure there are worse products out there, but I really did not like these tires. I have run Racing Ralphs and get along with them pretty well so no Schwable hate here, I just couldn't get comfortable with the Rons. My big issue was extremely sketchy cornering from the rear tire on a pretty wide variety of surfaces from firm to wet and loose.

    I replaced mine with Maxxis Ikons the difference was immediately noticeable. The traction and cornering with the Ikons is on a different level.

    I gave up on the Rons before durability became an issue, but I did flat on my second ride ever...

    Like the ex you can't quit

    These tires fall apart left and right on you. The knobblies just shred apart, they get slashed easily, and they generally have "mystery leaks". Not to mention they cost $92. I wouldn't recommend to most people looking for a new tire given they can't hold a tread on for a full season.

    All this being said, I immediately purchased another one after I threw my old one in the recycle bin. What does that say about me? I'm overly picky about my tires and my tire traction and the Schwalbe rubber compound really is that good. Thing grips to anything and you can lay the bike over 4dayz. Buyer beware - you will be purchasing the best performing tire with the worst longevity. It pains me every time I re-purchase one of these but good lord, they are fun to ride on. I like the Continental Race King as well but...it just doesn't do it quite like the Schwalbe.

    A side note - if you are putting these on a set of 29" ENVE wheels, they will be brutal to get on and off. There is a trick to doing it that I figured out the hard way - make sure you really push the bead down into the middle of the rim when putting on or pulling off. That gives you a little more latitude to work with and you won't be reaching for vice grips or anything.
