When Scarpa decided to upgrade the wildly popular Zen, it looked at every aspect of the shoe and found ways to make it better. The result is the new and improved Men's Zen Pro Hiking Shoe. The suede upper has been upgraded with PU-injected reinforcing for improved abrasion-resistance. The cushy EVA midsole is now injected for longer life. The Vibram sole has been upgraded to the Spyder 2, which still offers great stick, but won't pick up pebbles and gravel. Even the fit has been upgraded with Scarpa's Sock-Fit DV system for the feel of a running shoe but the sensitivity of an approach shoe. Add to that a durable rubber toe rand, P-Flex footbed, and moisture-wicking Cocona lining, and it's easy to see how all these upgrades will enhance your next climbing experience.

  • Suede and recycled poly Airmesh upper
  • Cocona lining
  • P-Flex footbed
  • EVA midsole
  • Vibram Spyder 2 outsole
  • Sock-Fit DV system
  • Rubber toe rand

Was a gift to my good friend who has tried several other approach type shoes. He is impressed by both the comfort and the torsional rigidity under the ball of his foot. Primarily, he has been using these shoes on rocky single track trails in the Wasatch, including Mt. O and Cardiff Fork. He has found them to be a good hiker, excellent on the downhill, and they inspire confidence. He wore them on a recent time trial to the upper stream crossing on Mt. O and liked them better than trail runners or boots. They are not an ultra light shoe. They weigh as much as his Solomon GTX boots. He thinks they will last for years though, the GTX’s have some holes in the sole already. He would highly recommend.

These things are an absolute beast of a shoe. The product quality is superb. The only thing keeping them from 5 ✭'s is the sizing issues. I spent 45 minutes inside Backcountry trying to figure out what size was the "right" size. ultimately I made a choice: however, it ended up being great in length but the toe box design wasn't. I did some hiking, walking, and drinking in them and they work great; whether it's wet or dry. I just wish the toe box was shaped a little differen for those of us sitting on the high side of a "D". All of you closer to a more narrow "D, or B" will love them.

I really like this shoe, it does fit a little tight, but is fairly true to size. I would definitely buy these shoes again. I bought a pair of Scarpa Mojitos last year, and while they are very serviceable they lack support for an extended "Approach" I prefer the Zen Pro hands down.

Another very well-made shoe from Scarpa. I first had the Zen shoe 20 years-ago. I loved it then; still a great product. Problem: Sizing. Purchased in a 45.5 - my typical best-fit for Scarpa - but this shoe didn't come close, as it's a size 11 US in 45.5, not 11 1/2. Seems to be a "consistent" issue for the Romanian Scarpa product: Undersized, or labeled oddly. Anyway, it makes it difficult to purchase the correct size without buying more than one size. Who really wants to do this? This is a stiff shoe that inspires confidence, and it formed well to my foot; just not the size expected. Otherwise, no complaints. This shoe looks state-of-the-art, and feels like finely tailored footwear. Nice shoe/boot series from Scarpa.

I would imagine that in 20 years there will be slight changes to the last. I've found that their current line is very consistent in size even across multiple facilities. Once you get your "best-fit" sizing dialed in, you will be good to go.

I have been wearing the Zen shoe for many years, and this is my second pair of the pro. I work as a pilot and guide for a lodge in Alaska, I hike every day, rocks, grass, mud, ice, there are no trails where we are. the Pro Zen is a big step up from the old Zen, really like that it has a bellowed tongue. Sizing is spot on scarpa, I wear a size 45 in everything they make. Great shoe!

I've had Cole Haan, Nike, Doc Martens, Campers, Timberland, Pumas, Reeboks, and even Moonbots. You name it, I've worn it. These are the best ALL PURPOSE shoes I've ever put on my feet. If you can find them in smoke/fog grey you won't regret it. The best color and the best shoe. They feel like Nike Air when you put them on, but unlike Nike Air they do not deflate. If your feet run a little big, they have notches built into the shoe that show you how to tie them to make some room. Thoughtful design and a beautiful shoe.

I got these for my dad for a recent canyoneering adventure we had. He loved them! They help provide the needed grip so that you don't slip, however they also provide the support you need for hiking or standing for long periods of time. He likes to use these hiking as well, I think he is sold on the brand now!

Great approach and light hiker

Usually approach shoes sacrifice on support and cushioning for feel and snug fit. Although theses Scarpas are snug in the toe box (as they should be), the mid-sole and traction make these legitimate light hikers as well. Just did the cable route on Half Dome in Yosemite in these and don't think you could havehave better footwear on.

Rock hard sole

Rock hard under the ball of your foot. Noticably harder than any other approach shoe I've tried. This can get old on long approaches over hard pack or rocks. Besides that, great shoe. Mine lasted 3 years before the sole was too worn, and the upper has held together well.

Got these as a gift for an active hiker friend, who says "Scarpa quality and great detail to the design. These hiking shoes look so good I don’t want to get them dirty! The faux carbon accents are really cool and add some protection from water and snow. Most importantly, they fit my wide feet in normal sizing and don’t look wide. The soles are aggressive without being too clunky so they work as an everyday shoe as well. Like any good hiking shoes they take some time to break in so don’t give up on ‘em. Great hiking shoes and service from the Backcountry Crew!"

I love how snugly this shoe supports your foot. When I first tried them on I thought no way they are too tight. But then I wore them in the house for 4 hours and realized they fit great. Comfortable right out of the box and are very supportive..

Definitely a well built shoe. They run small and not for wide feet but after swapping out the insoles they fit nice and snug like my approach shoes. I normally wear a 12US and maybe should have bought a half size up but after a few more miles I'll know for sure.

They're very well-built, nimble hiking shoes that have been very comfortable so far. I wear a size 10 in running shoes, 9 in boots, and went with a 44.0 after much back-and-forth. They run a little small. They're fairly close-fitting--they pinched when I added green Superfeet. With the stock insoles they fit great, however. Traction, comfort, features are all superb. They're the best hiking shoes I have used.

I am very pleased with this Scarpa Zen Pro shoe. I have owned several pairs of Scarpa hiking shoes and boots, as well as several pairs of ski boots. The Scarpa build quality is simply outstanding compared to the "made in the third-world sweatshop" alternatives and the styling is very handsome. Other Scarpa shoes I have won had taken a while to break in, but this Zen Pro was comfortable right out of the box. Other than a quick walk around the house to confirm the fit, my first outing was over and around Smith Rocks; about 3-hours of up and down on hard surfaces, with no complaints at all. The Scarpa fit is European, which suits narrower feet. I suggest ordering an EU half-size larger than you might normally go with.

Do these shoes have a gusseted tongue? I'm familiar with regular Zens and like them, but would prefer a gusseted tongue for sandy / bushwacking conditions.

Yes, they do. It's a stretchy soft-shell material.
