Better than solutions.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've always used La Sportiva Skwamas and Solutions and while I did like them I always found the heel to be sloppy. I talked to a few friends at the gym that switched from solutions to these and they all were saying how much better the heel fits. I finally purchased a pair and for anyone looking for size reccomendation I say go half a size up from your solutions. I am a size 9.5/10 in street shoes and I wear a 9 in solutions and a 9.5 in these Scarpa VSRs. This shoe shares the same Vibram XS Grip rubber as the Solution so you'll feel right at home in the performance aspect of the shoe. Where this shoe separates itself is the heel. Putting these shoes on and taking them off you'll realize how incredibly good the heel sucks on to your foot. I don't see myself going back to Solutions and this is now going to be my goto bouldering shoe.

Great out of the box!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love the fit on the heel so far. The VSR feels snug enough without any unnecessary stress from excess fabric. I also really appreciate how the black and blue hues are seamlessly integrated into the design. I've only climbed a couple of 5.11s with these shoes, but so far I am sold!

My Favorite Climbing Shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I love these climbing shoes, they fit my foot perfectly . I tried on both the VS and the VSR and like the VSR better because of the narrower shoes and the grip rubber instead of the edge rubber. They run true to size for me, in comparison I wear 38.5 in la sportiva, and size 39.5 in scarpa. I will definitely be buying this shoe again.

Successful Scarpa for me

I took a chance on these when I wanted an easy on/off shoe for the gym, and something more aggressive than my comfortable Mythos, as I'm trying to break into harder grades (for me, 5.11-12). These are just now getting broken in. I ordered one size down from my street shoe, as I didn't expect them to stretch much, and that's been perfect. I wear a size 35 in Mythos and a size 37 in this shoe. My previous favorite climbing shoe was the Scarpa Dominator (years ago) and the shape of the Scarpa last seems similar. I've tried other slightly aggressive shoes that were really painful, but the Instinct VSR has changed from tight to comfortable fairly quickly. I had to sand down the painted logo on the sole, because the first time I wore them they were quite slippery. They work well for heel and toe-hooking, and provide more sensitivity for holds than my Mythos. I'm very happy with these.

Best Bouldering Shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is the best shoe I've ever used for bouldering and hard sport, hands down. I have a slightly wider foot with a narrow heel and these shoes fit my foot perfectly with no excess space. Plenty of rubber on the toe for toe hooks. These shoes strike a great balance between stiffness and flexibility, I've used them for a variety of climbing styles and they work well for almost anything, especially anything overhanging. I climb on mostly Southeast sandstone (Stone Fort, Obed River, etc) which is where the Instinct VSR excels For sizing, I'm a US 8/8.5 in street shoes, and I got these in a 38.5 (roughly 6.5 in US size), and the fit is very snug but bearable. The shoe will barely stretch at all, so when you try on a pair make sure you like the size before you commit.

This is it... the perfect shoe

I had the La Spotiva Solution as my primary bouldering shoe. I thought they were great except that horrible bulky heel and baggy fit. I wondered what they would be like with a better heel. Well wonder no more, this is it. These are basically updated Solutions. All the benefits of the solution with a better heel and better overall fit. My feet are wide up from and narrow in the heel. These feel bomb on my feet. They go on with a 'whoosh' sound every time. No more am I nervous about if my heel is on the right place... I can feel them now. I wore a size 40.5 in Solutions and went for a 41.5 in the instincts VSRs. I tried a 41s at a demo and could've went with those but I think the 41.5s feel great. I'm probably right in between those two sizes, but they don't feel sloppy at all.

I've never tried Scarpa before and this is my first pair so I didn't know about sizing. I looked up online and many sources say to down half size from Solutions and I did, but that was a mistake. I can see how great this shoes can be but breaking them in was really painful.

So you took a star off because your stupid... got it

I've been in Instinct VS's for a while and loved them... Got the VSR two weeks ago and LOVE LOVE them. The difference is minor but the feeling is significant. Break in is faster, better fit, more comfortable and more sensitive. Win Win Win...

I'm thinking of switching from the VS to the VSR. Did you find the VSR to be slightly more snug/lower volume, or fit nearly identical to the VS? Thanks!

I am thinking about ordering a pair, but my size is 38 and it doesn't have it right now. Would there be size 38 soon?
