Furia Air Climbing Shoe

The Scarpa Furia Air Climbing Shoe mirrors the same shape as Scarpa's aggressive Furia S, except an airier, lighter construction provides a better fitting, more sensitive performance. More specifically, Scarpa redesigned the upper with perforated microsuede for sock-like sensitivity and better breathability, and there's less rubber around the heel and arch to reduce weight. MLT-Tension's rubber rand still maintains the shoe's aggressive downturn even though there's less rubber. Vibram's XS Grip 2 still covers the bottom for enhanced traction on slippery plastic and naturally slippery rock.
  • Scarpa's aggressive climbing shoe made lighter and airier
  • Aggressive downturn designed for difficult, overhung climbs
  • Perforated microsuede upper offers sock-like sensitivity
  • Vibram XS Grip 2 sole gives grip on slippery, microscopic footholds
  • MLT-Tension rand maintains aggression from heel to toe
  • Item #SCR009H

Surprisingly comfy; great performance

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
Runs small
Size Bought
37.5

I’m a loyal La Sportiva girl. My favorite shoes are the ladies’ Kataki. They are an excellent all rounder for indoors and outdoors and at my skill level (intermediate) I rarely need anything more aggressive. I value comfort. But when i started pandemic moonboarding, I found the kataki too stiff. I ordered the Scarpa Furia Air on a friend’s recommendation, and I love them on the moonboard. Very precise, sensitive, comfortable. The comfort was a surprise given their aggressive profile and tiny sizing. I initially purchased my La Sportiva size (37) but they were waaaaaaay too small. I sized up to 37.5 and I was worried they were still too small-they are a good half inch shorter than my Katakis and more narrow (see photo). They hurt to sit around in and my toes are pretty much bent in half, but as soon as I get on the wall they feel perfect! Glad i didn’t size up more than half a size.

Favorite Shoes I've ever had to date

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These shoes fit my feet like gloves. They are EXTREMELY comfortable, there was 0 break in period for me. On top of the exceptional comfort the performance on boulders and overhung terrain is unbeatable. These shoes also score 10 stars in my opinion in a very surprising category...Durability. I bought these at the same time I purchased a pair of Dragos. I figured I'd primarily wear the dragos and save these foe tough sends. Unfortunately my dragos dry rotted on the rand in about 3 months (they were babied, never left in car direct sunlight or anything but different story) As a consequence my furia airs have been subjected to 3+ gym sessions a week for about the last 7 weeks while waiting for scarpa to replace the dragos (insert severely disappointed emoji here) and are just now in territory of needing a re-sole. I am super impressed by the quality of these shoes, unfortunately I just didn't really get to use them how I intended. Not sure if they would last quite as many miles outside (wish I could say) the photo was taken at the time of writing this review, they've held up astonishingly well to all that gym abuse. They are great shoes. I bought them 1/2 size down (40.5) from my drago size (41)
