F80 Alpine Touring Boot
Look old school cool with new school tech in the Scarpa F80 Alpine Touring Boot. Featuring a throwback paintjob that takes the popular F80 boot back to Scarpa's roots, it's the same boot in a limited edition package. The 95 flex rating provides a soft feel while still giving a level of rigid responsiveness for a finely tuned balance between the two. The 102mm last accommodates average to wide feet, and the thermo-moldable liner forms to fit your feet to add a seamless response from foot to boot to ski.
Make your way up the skintrack comfortably by flipping the F80 lever and opening up the 62 degree range of motion in walkmode. The single buckle and boa closure design creates a snug fit that hugs your foot in both walk and ski modes, eliminating the need to adjust the boot before dropping into the descent. Specially engineered Carbon Core Evo technology adds torsional rigidity to the boot so you can direct power from your feet into your skis for better control on and off piste.

Great on trip to Revelstoke, Valhalla
I had some doubts not knowing if this boot was too soft, or if I should have gone with a stiffer more burly Scarpa. Coming from my Telemark days, I really liked this F80. It's great in walking mode for climbing the steeps, and definitely help up fine on the features, cliffs, chutes, etc. Never had a problem. It fit well after I put in custom foot beds, and heat molded the liners. If I had anything negative, it's that it's not as warm as my other boots, and the way the 3 pieces of plastic overlap at the top by the Velcro takes some getting used too (not from a fit perspective). It's when you take them off they get out of overlap sequence, and you need to mess with it before putting them back on. That may be confusing but hope not! Either way, I tried on 4 different pair of Scarpas including the Maestrale, and others and would buy the F80 again for sure.

So far, so (very light and) good
I'm 5'8, weigh 140 lbs and am an aggressive skier. I purchased the F80 as my lightweight setup (black crow ova, g3 zed). I wear the Scarpa Freedom SL as my primary inbound/outbound boot, so I knew I loved Scarpa design and fit. This boot fits almost identically to that boot, but is substantially lighter. The flex is inevitably softer on the F80s, but so far I have not felt that this is a compromise. I can still rip/carve/shred a variety of terrain with control and precision. The boot also offers an insane range of motion in tour mode. It's like wearing a sock and I love it. Transitions are quick, easy, and turn the boot from touring glory to shred city. The fit & buckle system is the reason this is 4/5 stars. In fact, I love the Boa system and the easy adaptability of the buckle/strap design. However, the overlapping plastic flaps that result in a precision fit that, in practice, is soooo annoying. the baffling gets wrinkled and caught in the wrong position of the overlapping material with every on/off. I have to force the plastic back into proper position around the shin area. My main concern is that all this finagling means that the boots' integrity and longevity are compromised. Once all the pieces are aligned, the fit is amazing and has been really comfortable.

Is this the same as the F1, just cosmetically different?

Hey James, I just checked with the manufacturer and this is the same boot just the limited edition version. The exclusive, 2018 limited-edition version of the SCARPA® F1 is available in red and is embellished with the historic SCARPA® logo to celebrate 80 years of the brand.
