    Comfort is paramount.

In the saddle, nothing is more important than fit and comfort. After all, a century ride is hard enough without irritation and discomfort. That's why you need to pick your apparel wisely, and where better to turn to other than the master Italian craftsmanship of Santini? With its Tempo Bib Shorts, Santini has raised the bar of comfort with compressive qualities, integrated carbon fibers, and an exclusive, proprietary chamois.

For the construction of the Tempo bib shorts, Santini used a blend of materials to ensure a precise and comfortable fit. Starting with the base of the composition, Santini's Lycra Newport fabric supports the legs' muscle groups through a slightly compressive weave. While it's not compressive enough to reduce lactic acid buildup via increased circulation, the fabric does offer enough support to minimize the detriment of fatigue from road vibration and general strain. Additionally, Newport is extremely breathable, and it has a heightened level moisture management. Both of these characteristics are further exemplified through Santini's placement of Carbon fabric inserts. These hypoallergenic fibers are strategically placed along the skin in order to exploit their ability to block the UV rays and static electrical charges that aid in the buildup of lactic acids. Ultimately, the carbon fibers assist blood flow on an incremental scale, while providing a consistent thermo-regulation.

And while high-end fabrics are fantastic, Santini's renown emanates from its characteristically Italian design and fit. Basically, Santini is aware that the Tempo bib shorts are made for riding, not lounging. So, each pair features a multi-paneled, minimally-seamed design that's been cut to greet the contours of your body while in motion. This means that, in the saddle, you won't experience any bunching or chafing. And to ensure that the fit remains secure, Santini incorporated its external, silicone leg grippers. These grippers apply even pressure across the leg, so you won't experience any pinching or loss in circulation. As for the uppers, Santini used an open mesh design that's met with a tall brace system at the back and sides. This interface provides stability and support to the overall fit, while the mesh straps retain a high level of breathability.

As for the chamois, the Tempo bib shorts feature Santini's exclusive MAX2 insert. This chamois approaches comfort from two fields -- abrasion reduction and support. Starting with abrasion, the MAX2 insert uses all internal stitching throughout, so chafing or irritation as a result of contact. Further along these lines, Santini made the chamois from two foam layers with variable densities between two and four millimeters. The top layer has an antimicrobial microfiber surface that provides constant hygiene and a smooth interface between the foam and the skin. For support, the padding is thicker at key points of pressure across the perineum and gluteal regions. Additionally, in combination with the microfiber, the chamois is able to effectively reduce heat and wick away moisture.

    Bargain hotel, no b-room

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The chamois is wide and perfectly positioned, but the shorts lacked sufficient space up front. I tried the large for my 6', 165 lb, 32 waist frame and it fit well enough except too compressive up front. Good leg grippers that don't pull hair on those of us who don't shave.

    Not bad for the price

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got these after riding a pair of Castelli bibs in to the ground for a year. Just wanted something different. Very comfortable fit with a higher waist, which is what I was looking for. Don't really care for Castelli's super low cut front, which for anyone over 2% body fat creates some sort of male muffin front, aside from causing what I think is too binding of a crotch area. The Santini's are more accomiding this aspect. The straps are nice and wide and the back stays nice and tight. Stretching a bit out after first 15 rides, but staying pretty compressed in the correct areas. Legs are shorter than my Castelli's by about 1/2", and the white leg bands don't slip, but they are starting to show some wear already. The material on the bands is some for of blend that is more similar to the feel of cotton and firzzes a bit after a few washes. Aside from that, they have been very cool in the summer heat, especailly with the lower quad section having the very breathable material.

All in all - great bang for the buck and great mid section fit - or what we call "Master's Support". Yeah Competitive Cyclist you can use that term in the future (just make sure to pass on the royalties).
