    Reinforced where it matters most.

Inspiring you to take the biggest and baddest lines and launch off everything in sight, the Santa Cruz Reserve 30 27.5in DT 350 Boost Wheelset is designed to take a serious beating out on the trail with its reinforced bead and spoke nipple interface. In fact, Santa Cruz designed their Reserve Wheels to be the strongest carbon hoops on the market through extensive research of critical failure points, going so far as to redesign the impact testing protocol used on traditional carbon rims.

Instead of replicating the pothole-like impact test used on traditional carbon wheels, Santa Cruz developed their very own testing procedure that simulates one-sided impacts that normally occur when a rider lands on a square, protruding rock after getting airborne. As they began testing leading manufacturer's carbon wheels, it became readily apparent that most carbon wheels not only broke along the expected bead, but they also failed along the spoke nipple interface, due to the drastic increase in spoke tension as the wheel flexed upon impact.

To mitigate these breakage issues, Santa Cruz beefed up the rim bead, increasing its thickness by one millimeter along each side for improved resiliency when you're thrashing the living hell out of these wheels. The design engineers at Santa Cruz then fortified the spoke holes with square-shaped reinforcements you can visibly see, which protect the spoke nipples from suddenly pulling through due to harsh impact. Although Santa Cruz isn't the first company to reinforce a carbon wheel's high-stress areas, they're one of the first to offer a lifetime warranty, so long as you actually break them out on the trail.

It's worth noting this particular Reserve 30 Wheelset is laced to DT Swiss 350 Hubs for outstanding reliability and relatively quick engagement with 36-star ratchet system. It's a bit wider at 30 millimeters of internal width, allowing you to run the higher volume trail tires becoming increasingly popular on today's trail and enduro machines. J-bend spokes and mechanical lock nipples make for easier replacement, should you break a spoke or nipple when you're traveling with your bike. Please note, they're available in Boost spacing only.

    Lifetime warranty, huge weight savings

Santa Cruz offers a lifetime warranty sobthis investment can go from bike to bike. Rotating mass is 3x more important than stagnant weight so saving weight in your wheels is 3x more important than other places on your bike. These wheels are also stiff yet compliant meaning they corner like there on trails yet still offer some give on rocks and bumps.

Possibly the Best MTB Wheels Ever???

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been cycling now for over 26 years and these could possibly be the best MTB wheels I have ever ridden. It appears Santa Cruz has taken all the problems associated with carbon wheels and erased them with the RESERVE. I have been riding a Bronson CC with Enve M60HVs for the past 2 years. The Enves are nice but have several annoying issues. Thats for another review. The Reserves are definitely not as stiff as compared to the Enves. The are notiecably softer when climbing and accelerating. However the overall ride quality and comfort all out way the lack of stiffness. Descending through downhill chunk and cornering are definitely where these wheels shine. Paired with Maxxis DHF WT and DHR II s the bike just seems to corner on rails and plow through the roughest lines with precision and ease. The offset lacing, reinforced spoke area, and use of sapim alloy locking nipples will all lead to a maintenance friendly and trouble free wheel. Not to mention the lifetime warranty on the rim! One last thing, I was able to mount the tires without the use of tire levers. Removing the tire was just as easy. 2 tire levers and the tire comes off easy. I also did not have to use my air compressor to inflate. Just used my Topeak Joe Blow Booster. Extremely Happy with these wheels. I will report back once I have some long term use on them.

Carbon is amazingly strong, but there is a reason that Santa Cruz offers a lifetime warranty on these new Reserve Wheels. They don't want you to miss a ride and will do their best to get you back on your bike within 24 hours if anything ever happens to your Reserve rims. Just ask MacAskill.
