    5010 2.1 Carbon C Mountain Bike Frame

The Santa Cruz 5010 2.1 Carbon C Mountain Bike Frame hits a true sweet spot between timid cross country bikes and aggressive enduro machines. A proven partner for endurance specialists, as well as a favorite trail bike of the Santa Cruz Syndicate downhill squad, the 5010 proves that sometimes less really is more, especially in this value-conscious build.

The 5010's subtle inclination towards a wilder style of riding befits its lineage. It's a direct descendant of the legendary Blur 4X, a groundbreaking machine that was a dual slalom ripper that could happily be pedaled on day-long rides. The family resemblance is crystal clear, as the 5010's combination of comfortable cockpit position and slalom-inspired cornering make it a truly rewarding partner for riders of nearly any skill level.

With 5 inches of VPP suspension, the 5010 has enough travel on tap to make the most of technical trails, without dulling the ability for the rider to push it to the edge. As with all VPP bikes, the 5010's counter-rotating links are carefully arranged to resist activation by pedaling forces, all but eliminating unwanted bobbing under power. This being a later iteration of VPP, it's tuned to provide more midstroke support than previous generations of the VPP platform, giving the rider a better feel for the terrain, and a livelier ride feel.

Of course, the poised cornering and playful attitude that has come to define the 5010 are largely due to its highly refined geometry. The 67-degree head tube angle remains stable at speed, while still agile enough to initiate a change of direction. At 16 inches, the 5010 has shorter chainstays than any of Santa Cruz's other trail bikes, further enhancing its willingness to rail berms and dive into off-camber corners. The bottom bracket sits 13.1 inches off the ground, just high enough to avoid excessive pedal strikes while remaining settled in situations where aggressive lean angles are required. It's a setup that forgoes the longer-is-better line of thinking in favor of a machine that's quick and responsive, and that handling has made it a favorite of everyone from dedicated trail riders to Santa Cruz pros pushing the physical limits.

This 5010 is built using Santa Cruz's C carbon fiber construction. Although it's not quite as lightweight as Santa Cruz's premium CC carbon fiber layup, the C level carbon fiber frames offer exactly the same amount of strength and stiffness as their CC counterparts, at a weight penalty of roughly 240g. The upshot is that you get the legendary durability and ride quality of Santa Cruz carbon frames, at a much more palatable price.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

he 5010 is like getting back together with a high school buddy for a night on the town. It's just down right fun! Every time you get on this bike you'll forget about everything else but the moment and just rip it up!
This mid travel (130/140) 27.5 toy is simply down for whatever, hit some small jumps, technically climbs, DH Park or an all day adventure. This is the bike that anyone can get on and no matter what terrain you ride you will have a good time.
For Reference I'm 5'9" 32" inseam at 175lbs. I have ridden the Medium and the Large and had just as much fun on both.
