    April showers.

This spring, blast over your favorite stretches of singletrack with Salomon's XA Pro 3D GTX Men's Shoe supporting your feet on every root lattice standing in your way. Designed for the days when the weather doesn't cooperate but you need to train anyway, the XA Pro comes with an added Gore-Tex lining to shield your feet from the rain. By keeping your toes dry, the XA Pro prevents blisters and chafing when you're stomping through puddles or sprinting, uninhibited, through a surprise shower.

Though the Gore-Tex liner blocks water, it doesn't prevent air from moving through the shoe while you sweat. Instead, it works with the shoe's breathable uppers to ensure your feet can breathe on your most humid runs. Salomon also continued its preparation for wet trails into the tread profile, shaping the lugs to dig in and hold onto slick, inconsistent surfaces so a little mud doesn't force you to slow down your pace.

    • Fly over wet, uneven trails in this capable shoe
    • Breathable Gore-Tex lining seals out rain and muck
    • Stable, supportive midsole ideal for technical trails
    • Lug pattern designed to grip on loose, wet surfaces
    • Quicklace system provides a secure fit in seconds
    • Asymmetrical lacing lets you customize fit across your foot
    • Reinforced toe cap improves longevity and shields toes

    A great favorite

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'0"
    • Weight: 130lbs

"I have been using this particular shoe for over 20 years and they have the best fit of any shoes I have tried. The lacing system is the best, the only thing I would change is a little more tread on the sole. I use these for hiking in the snow and walking my dog."

    Functional but not as durable

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Size Bought: 9.5

"This is my third pair of these shoes and I keep coming back to them for trail running and hiking duties. All around great shoe but the lacing system, support, and waterproofing really set them apart. I have a narrow foot and they fit me well. The only downside is the durability…they just don’t seem to last as long as they could. The functionality and fit keeps me buying them again."

    Poor quality tread

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 42
    • Height: 5'7"

This is maybe my 6th pair of xa pro and first pair of the Gtx version. Super comfortable with a great lacing system. That's the good.

    The bad
    - Gtx doesn't last very long
    - after four months of use the middle part of the tread started falling apart which accelerated the complete destruction of that area and left a hard plastic area with no grip.

As mentioned above this is not my first pair and usually they last a year, these only lasted 4 months. I don't know if the quality or manufacturing has changed but never buying Salomon again.

    Best Shoes Ever!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 230lbs

Great shoes! This is my 6th pair of xaPro gtx! Love these shoes! Perfect for all around womping on road and off! Highly recommend these shoes. Stick with the goretex version. Much better imho than the same shoe with Salomon's "waterproof coating."

    Rigid and painful.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 200lbs

I love Salomon shoes and tried to love these, but I just couldn't. I've had these for a long time and after a break-in period I just couldn't make myself keep wearing them. They remained stiff even after 3 years of occasionally breaking them out of the closet to try them again. The last straw was after the heel cup made minced meat out of my heel 3 mi into a 28mi, multi-day hike. These shoes were destined for the next trash bin I ran across and were secured to my pack as I swapped to my Teva's for the rest of the hike through rain, snow, and ice. I've never had this problem with any of my non-GTX/WP models made by Salomon over the past 5 years.

Great Trail Shoe - Hvy/Stiff For Streets

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 8.5
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I wanted a Gore-Tex running shoe and I was impressed with them, the fit and comfort but ended up swapping them for a pair of Brooks Ghost 10 GTX because the Salomon's are really more for real trails and are a bit heavy and stiff to just use to run on roads in the rain which is my main use for these shoes.

    Great so far

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Very comfortable shoe, little on the firmer side. Pretty good arch support. The quick lace system is an absolute gift to mankind, I wish every shoe brand would start making a quick lace option. Worn in snow multiple times, feet have stayed dry thanks to the gore-tex.

    Buy a pair every year

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I gave the XA Pros as a gift to my dad several years ago and now it's what he asks for every year. He has a very demanding job where he is on his feet 8-10 hours a day walking/lifting/standing and says these are the only shoes that help keep his feet from getting sore mid-day. He does have slender fit and mentioned that if you have a wide foot these probably wouldn't work.

    Great shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.5
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I got these to replace my worn out pair that was not the gore tex model.
The anchored lacing lacing is much better than the old model.

    High quality and long lasting

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I put hundreds of miles on these shoes before they started to wear down to the point that I really needed a new pair. They're expensive but worth it!

    Fantastic Shoes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 12.5
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 205lbs

These are terrific trail hikers. A bit heavy for trail runners, but great for wet weather and slopping around in winter parking lots during ski season, or navigating trails on a weekend walk in the woods. I found they run about a 1/4 to 1/2 size small, so I recommend buying a half size bigger than normal.

    XA Pro 3D

Love Solomon shoes, been using this shoe for years. This new model however seems more rigid around ankle and heel area. Not as much padding and digs in under ankle bone. Might be my imagination just doesn't seem as comfy as previously models.

      Salomon Shoes are the goat

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 12
      • Height: 6'2"
      • Weight: 240lbs

First off i love the way these shoes fit. next i love the quick laces. i dont use these for trail running because they are a little clunky for running, however i love these for all of my hiking and backpacking needs ( i hate bigger boots because they are heavy and even clunky, although i do sacrifice a little support) they make a durable lightweight hiking shoe. i bought these before a trip to norway, they require little to no time to break in which is fantastic! ive used these in the snow, crossing rivers/hiking through water and even traveling through the cities. love the fit, love the durability, love the gortex, absolutely love salomon. i highly recommend these shoes to anyone!

      Fantastic trail running shoes

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 9
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 140lbs

This is the 5th pair I've bought of these shoes (the others having been worn out after many hundreds of kilometres of trail running, hiking and casual wear). For my feet at least, these seem to be the perfect shoe. Supportive, great traction, fairly light, sufficient cushioning and they don't look bad. The quick-lace system works as described and is tidier than normal laces.

I've owned both the Gore-Tex and non-Gore-Tex versions. I've found the Gore-Tex version to be more durable and warmer in Winter (great on frosty grass or snow as your feet stay dry). However when frequently crossing streams/rivers the non-Gore-Tex version is better as the water just drains out and your foot dries faster and in warmer weather the added breathability is a plus.

I would give these shoes a sixth star if I could.

Salomon XA Pro 3D GTX Trail Running Shoe

Great support and stability for trail running. I sprained my ankle pretty bad late last year and wanted a trail running shoe with more stability and the XA Pro 3D thus far has met my expectations. My foot feels more protected in this shoe more so than others, the only slight thing to note is that they do feel a bit heavier than other Salomon shoes. My custom orthotics fit in them and I like the pull tab at the back. The cross lace at the front seems to lock your foot in even better. These are definitely ones to try if you are looking for more stability on technical trails.
