    Don't sweat the small stuff.

While the Royal Arches hike through Chautauqua may be a literal walk in the park, it certainly doesn't feel like it. That is, unless you're wearing the Salomon Women's X Ultra Prime Hiking Shoe. Constructed with a lightweight and breathable mesh upper, this hiking shoe features a glove like accommodation with its SensiFit system and women-specific design. In addition to its comfortable upper, the X Ultra Prime is equipped with a protective heel and toe cap while a molded shank and injected EVA foam midsole ensure hike-long comfort. Not to mention, the non-marking Contagrip sole provides ample traction and rugged performance in those scrambly situations.

    Comfortable for long hikes!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these shoes for Yosemite and they did great. I usually where a 9.5-10 and purchased the 10. Fit great and felt comfy all day long. Nice amount of stickiness to the sole, but still a little slick on wet granite.

Revised review - these don't work for me

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ordered these in an 8 and an 8.5 and originally thought the 8s were best for me. After an hour wearing them in my house, the tops of both feet were numb. Kept the 8.5s. I've hiked in them twice and have the same problem...numb feet and toes. These shoes may just be too narrow for me, though I have normal width feet and have never worn a wide shoe in my life. I'll be donating these and buying Keens (my trusted brand) again.

Comfy, Light weight Perfect for hike!

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

From my Sister "Provides great support. Very comfortable. Have used during my hike in Escalante and couple in the city as well and no complaints so far."

    Comfy Every Day

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Comfy every day shoe and great for shorter hikes! I got them for my girlfriend, she says she mayyybe could have sized down 1/2 size but other than that they are great. Lots of padding , she is stoked to have found a shoe for a wider foot.

    Perfect fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are perfect fit for my wide feet. Hiked 5 miles round trip up Devils Slide to Saddle Junction in San Jacinto and they were very comfortable and had great traction. Loved them!

    Great Day Hiking Shoes!

I shopped around for quite some time before I settled on these shoes. So far they have been great for day hikes and were actually comfy out of the box. I love the style, color, and fit. I tend to wear 9.0 to 9.5 and ended up going with the 9.5. I do agree that they run a little large, however I was concerned about my toes hitting the front of the shoes when hiking down hill so I opted to size up. I suspect I am truly a 9.25, but if you are also on the fence, I would recommend trying both sizes side by side to ensure you are getting the best fit for your foot. My feet are a little wider so the toe box and larger size worked best for me. Overall a great shoe and I am sure it will hold up well for year of great hikes to come!

      Great Day Hiking Shoes!

      Runs a half size large

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Because of the other reviews that said to get a half size smaller than you normally wear I bought a 6.5 and a 6. I tried the 6 on first and it fit me perfectly! I didn't even try the 6.5 on because it would have been way too big! These shoes are out of box comfortable! The toe box is just right for my wide foot! My toes can splay the right way when I'm walking and hiking and everything is awesome! And they have just the right amount of arch support! The only complaint that I do have is that the tongue on the left foot is hitting the top of my foot weird and causing a slight amount of pain. maybe I just need to adjust it different.

      What I was looking for

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for something to replace my Montrails and, though I didn't like the Salomon's I had ages ago, I took a chance on these. I use this shoe mostly for hiking and dog-walking and I love them so far. The rugged sole has good traction, but isn't clunky or heavy. They do run a bit on the large-ish side, but weren't as big as I was expecting based on the other reviews. I am a size 8 (sometimes an 8.5) and the size 8 fits me fine. They are roomy in the toebox, but I like that in a hiking shoe - don't want my toes banging the front anyway.

      Initial Impression

      • Fit: True to size

My gearhead account manager recommended these to me as I was looking for a good pair of hiking shoes. I had had bad experience with hiking shoes so was extra picky. I got them, super excited, put them on and went for a 4-hour hike. Put them through very rough and rocky trails, they held up FINE, and very solid, full protection around my feet. Loved it. They also saved my ankle twice as I was going downhill and sliding. These shoes have very good support on their back. Very basic, nothing fancy, yet comfortable and tough enough. Very easy to adjust as well. I have the deep blue color, they look a little darker than the picture.

      Lightweight and just stiff enough

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: 7.5
      • Height: 5'5"
      • Weight: 130lbs

I shopped around for a while for the right hiking shoes. I just moved to a very dry climate from the pacific northwest, where I was always wearing either Salomon goretex hiking boots or Salomon goretex running shoes. So I wanted something much more breathable, and these are perfect. They are light but with a nice stiff sole and decent support good for day hiking around the Wasatch. I have worn a ton of different Salomon running shoes over the years, and for some reason these hiking shoes seem to run a little on the large size. I normally wear an 8 in Salomon, but for these I needed a 7.5.
