    Prime traction.

From time to time, our trail-map memory bank fails us and consequently takes us on a wild ride up Mount Olympus (instead of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail). The next time you encounter this lapse in cognizance, just make sure you're wearing the Salomon Men's X Ultra Prime CS WP Hiking Shoe. Built to move swiftly and tackle technical trails without the clunky hiking boot silhouette, the X Ultra Prime features a completely waterproof ClimaShield upper and protective toe cap that ultimately offers both paramount performance, rugged dependability, and covert breathability when you need it most. In addition to its burly upper, the X Ultra Prime is equipped with a lug-heavy Contagrip sole that's sure to keep you stable while the EVA injected midsole, molded shank, and Ortholite sockliner ensure ample support throughout your trailside adventure.

    Good shoe for good price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

First of, let me warn you. The shoe runs SMALL! I am a woman who wears a mens 9. I knew it ran small so I ordered a 9.5 - NOPE! 10? NOPE. 10.5? YES! Now, I KNOW I do not wear practically a men's 11, b/c a barely wear a women's 11, but whatev. A entire size and a half increase means this shoe runs unusually small. Shoe looks really nice and is very comfortable. While I did not submerge them in water yet, I went snowshoeing in dry powder, granted, but the shoe was nice and dry. Besides the look and comfort, the downside is that the seams along the stitching on the shoe is fraying already and I've only had it a month at best. So, not the best and not the worst. Decent shoe for the price.

    Comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Very comfortable. The only problem that I've had with them is tightening them... I usually have to cinch down more on the laces than I do with other shoes to get them tight enough where the heal won't slip around. It's not uncomfortable and doesn't usually cut off circulation but it can be tricky to tighten them enough for a day out; and occasionally I've had to re-tie them in the middle of a longer day hike. I've lived off Merrell's for so long I finally decided to open up to another brand for a day hiker so I don't really know how common it is to stop and re-tighten your shoes in the middle of hike, but I'd assume it's not that common. Other than that they are very comfortable and grip very nicely on rock. I even managed to do a couple of very low angle slab pitches at whitehorse ledge while wearing these shoes.

    Disappointed

After only using 4 times I'm am wearing a hole through the toe . I have tried to contact salomom but the hold times are long . And I'm just past 30 days so backcountry can no longer help . I suggest passing on these low quality shoes . They have lost my business.

    Great hiking shoe!

Have been hiking in the Unitas and on a 16mile backpacking trip at Great Basin NP. Still breaking them in but overall these are great. Great grip and pretty comfortable. Only complaint is that the back rubs on Achilles' tendon. We'll see if that fixes with more use!

I almost love these shoes , I own a pair of X ultra 2 in a size 12 , been hiking in them for a few months and they are far and away the best , most comfortable hiking shoe I had ever worn , I purchased these shoes after reading that they were basically an older version , these are nice shoes , the only thing that keeps me from loving them is that they are a tiny bit narrower in the tow box , not enough to make me hate them but just enough to keep me from loving them , the ultra 2 are perfect , I am trying to stretch these out the tiniest amount to make them perfect , I really like the comfort and the arch support , , I will give them about 50 miles and if they don't break in just a tiny bit more they will have to go back , I really want to keep them though ......
