Miles later, still happy
My girlfriend and I have the same pair, hers obviously in a womenâs. I have logged roughly 750 miles on them of mixed use between hiking/backpcking, snowshoeing and winter hiking with crampons, fly fishing and light mountaineering. I donât have any other experience with similar brands/competing models at this price range or usage class, as I used tennis shoes and trail runners before this and eventually bought danner mountain lights 3 years ago and these 1 year ago besides owning winter boots. I find them decently waterproof, even in snow, as long as they arenât overtopped. I just got tired of no ankle support in low options, but wanted something for year round use. The grip is pretty good, but not as reliable at all once slightly wet. Can be a little too hot for a July hiker, but if you have the right socks for the occasion, they can be a solid 4 season boot if you have to choose one. I enjoy the lightweight, water resistance, and durability so far. The sole isnât heavy anough weight to completely save your feet once you hit screeline, but it still manages to get the job done and get you to 14k if you know how to descend properly.
Everyday Hiking Shoe
As a Salomon employee, the X Ultra 3 is my go-to everyday hiking boot. I prefer the mid for a bit more protection around the ankle, and some added stability. Watch the video below to learn more about the X Ultra!
