Why We Like The X Ultra 3 Hiking Shoe

Sometimes hiking is about getting up, checking the view, and getting back down before the storm hits. When that's the plan, the Salomon X Ultra 3 Hiking Shoe is the shoe we want. At 11 ounces, it won't slow you down, but it doesn't sacrifice comfort, grip, or durability to keep things light.

The Contagrip sole is plenty burly, while the EVA midsole and footbed provide all the cushioning you'll need to handle rough and rocky trails. Salomon's Advanced Chassis serves up plenty of stability and the Sensifit construction and Ortholite liner cradle your foot in a supportive and loving embrace. New for the X Ultra 3, Salomon added its Descent Control technology, which offers added grip and confidence on technical descents.

  • Lightweight hiking shoe for technical trails
  • Heel and toe cap protect from rocks
  • Sensifit wraps foot for secure fit
  • Women-specific design is anatomically shaped
  • Stiff chassis offers lateral support
  • EVA midsole and footbed provide all-day comfort

I am a huge Salomon shoe fan, and these X Ultra 3 Hiking Shoes don't disappoint. They are light weight and perfect for summer hiking trips. As someone with very high arches I find them comfortable and supportive. They are also breathable and have decent traction on rocky terrain

The shoe size runs large. Because it’s snug around the ankle, you don’t realize it until after you’ve worn it and can no longer return.

Comfortable and great traction

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

True to size

I'm very happy with these hiking shoes. They were comfortable straight out of the box, and they provide more stability and rock protection without feeling stiff or heavy. And the traction is good...I've hiked in mud and snow and wasn't slipping all over the place. I went a full size up to make sure there was plenty of room for my toes and for thicker socks in the winter. I probably could have gotten away with only a 1/2 size up but they still fit well.

Awesome for summer hiking!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Heading out for a backpacking trip in July, I knew I needed breathable hiking shoes. I never expected shoes as comfortable and cool as these! I've hiked in them a ton now and they are great for all terrain, and they are even good in the rain, especially because they dry faster than a lot of shoes.

Love it!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I love these shoes! I have worn them EVERYWHERE! They are so comfortable and they feel great on my feet. As someone that always manages to find a rock to stub her tow on, the toe cap has definitely been beneficial! Only downfall, not waterproof.

Hiking Light

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I tend to like to go lightweight when hiking here in Utah, Idaho and the NW and have chocked up many miles in my Salomon Trail Running shoes. They've been great for the short hikes that aren't too rocky, but when you're hitting a trail that is mixed with plenty of rocks and rougher terrain, and my longer distances where I've carried a few more supplies (and weight), I needed to up my game and get more solid support and cushion between my foot and the ground but still stay light and relatively minimalist; these have been the perfect answer. They're more comfortable and solid, have great grip and I'm confident with the durability. Ordered true to size for my hiking shoes/boots (1/2 size up from my street shoe size but no more).

In the specs it says it has Gore-Tex for waterproofing but in the description I didn’t think this was the gtx version just the ultra x 3. Can you clarify please.
