Boots matter most.

The old adage that you can do more on a dialed boot and a 20-year old ski than sloppy boots and the latest-and-greatest boards exists for a reason, and boots like the Salomon X Pro 120 Ski Boot make it easy to understand why. Offering up loads of customization, comfort, and bombproof reliability, the boot comes with a rippable 120 flex and heat-moldable 360 degree Custom Shell. Just imagine what it'll do with those shiny new skis.

Salomon constructed the X Pro 120 with its TwinFrame 360-degree heat moldable shell, made of bi-material polyurethane. The shell features fully customizable panels around the ankle, shin, instep, and upper foot, so you can dial in a fit that conforms to the shape of your particular feet without taking drastic measures. Molding the My Custom Fit 3D Race liner is also easy and allows you to significantly improve the fit of the boot. Carve down groomers and dive off into the deep stuff with the security of a customized liner that won't let a heel lift or a forefoot wiggle ruin your line. Even once you've gotten the X Pro molded around your feet, Salomon's Articulated Sensifit design, essentially flexible panels around the instep and shin, means you'll be able to slide the boot on and off without a series of dramatic grunts and sighs every afternoon.

With its X Pro line, Salomon managed to build boots that won't leave you in a tough spot when you're counting on them, but that are also comfortable enough to wear all day. Salomon's Oversized Pivot, sitting between the shell and cuff, manages to keep the boot laterally stiff, so you won't end up nose-over-tips when you throw power onto your outside leg to carve a deep set of tracks. Once you duck into the fun stuff, the wide power strap and adjustable Flex Boost screw lets you tighten up the flex to make sure your boots are rock-solid and responsive before you say a prayer and drop in. Just don't forget to lock down the micro-adjustable buckles before you do.

Passed on these, but great boot

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I passed on these in favor of the Tecnica Cochise 120's because they simply fit my foot better out of the box. I have a very soft spot for Salomon as I have a Force 9 ski/boot combo from 1993 that served me very well for many years. These boots were excellent, just a little too short in the toe for me in my size 26.5. If they fit your foot, I'm certain they will perform flawlessly.

I had the Cochise's, Salomon X Pro 120's, and Lange RX 130's all at my house at the same time. My goal was to keep the one with the best fit. I kept the Cochise. By the way, I realize those other two models do not have a walk feature; so it is apples to oranges. However, the flex, stiffness, and overall fit seemed just as good on the Cochise compared to those downhill only models. I've read other reviews stating the downhill performance of the Cochise is virtually identical to dedicated downhill models, so I expect that type of performance once I get them on the snow. The Salomon's had an outstanding overall "hug your entire foot" kind of fit, but were too short in the toe. The Lange's had excellent heel hold but were too voluminous in the toe box. The Cochise simply fit right. My only gripe, and it is a small one, is the heel hold on the Cochise seemed very slightly inferior to the other two boots. Don't misunderstand, the heel hold is very good, just a shade less secure than the others. I'm sure it will more than suffice on the mountain.

Awesome boots

This review is based on having researched ski boots, and purchased two pairs to get the right size. I still haven't skied in them yet.
Love the design of these boots, and the fit is great. I went with a 25.5, and I wear an 8.0-8.5 or 41 Euro. They feel tight and like they would handle well on the slopes. Great buy with season end pricing. Excited to try these out next season!

    Year after year!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Personally, I own the 2015/2016 model of the Salomon X Pro 120 Boots. Why mess with perfection?! Salomon knows when they have found a good thing and as the age old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Which is why Salomon hasn't made any major changes to this boot in the past couple of seasons.

Salomon have designed the perfect boot for the Expert Skier that doesn't want to compromise comfort for performance. Between the heat moldable liner, the 4 micro-adjust buckles, and multiple customizable panels, you can really dial in this boot to fit your foot like a slipper.

I wear a 10.5 running shoe and wear a 27.5 in these boots and the length of the boot is perfect. I have a slightly narrower foot, but not one that warrants a LV shell, with the Salomon X Pro 120 boot I find the toe box is slightly wider then desired, but with the right shell size I have been able to enjoy the performance of this boot for multiple seasons now.

    Great Boots!

While it was difficult to part with my old alpine boots, I now have zero regrets. This boot is AWESOME- plenty stiff to push your skis as much as you desire, but it also retains unparalleled comfort with a nice wide last. I'm of the opinion you should never sacrifice performance for comfort- the x-pro 120 offers the best of both worlds. This is my first pair of Salomon boots, and I am now a firm believer in them. The heat moldable liner allows for an ultra customizable fit, leaving you actually wanting to wear them over your favorite pair of running shoes... but actually. I wear a 11.5 shoe and the 28.5 fits me perfect.
