1st. I ordered these Salomon Toundra Pro CSWP boots after a lot of research for my winter camping, snowshoeing and other winter activities. They ar amazing. I own these boots and my Solomon trail runners. They are both built with quality, my trail runners have about 300 miles on them and my last pair lasted over 400. These boots look and feel like the same quality. They are very warm with plenty of toe room with heavy socks. As others have posted I had to go one size up on my regular shoe size. These boots are amazing 2nd When I ordered these on the backcountry website(best price I could find) I mis-ordered so I had to call a “gear head” and I spoke with Marcus. He was polite, professional and best of all he got my order straightened out very quickly with a positive attitude. Best of all my original order was 5-7 day shipping but when I saw my updated order 2day shipping was listed. I was a little skeptical that it was correct but 2 days later...boots arrived. 3rd After all of my research and this experience, backcountry.com has earned all of my business for gear in the future. Thanks and I am very happy with my boots

I was between the Salomon Men's X Ultra Winter CS Waterproof 2 Hiking Boot and X Ultra Winter CS WP Boot . After ordering both for sizing I decided keep the X Ultra Winter CS WP Boot. This boot is very comfortable and lightweight. I just came from Lapland, Finland with temperature between 25F to -20F. I’m landscape photographer and had no issues. Very warm and keep me dry. I ordered a 1/2 size up...no problem at all, roomy enough to bulky ski socks and feet warmers. I used the feet warmers only two days with temperature below zero -10F and -26F and just for precaution, but no warmers needed regular days with 20F to 0F temperatures.

Summary: Great boots, super warm and comfortable. I don't have the best circulation in my feet and have gotten mild frostbite in the past while winter camping. Before my trip out this winter to Northern Michigan I decided that I should upgrade my boots from the over-tight Merrels that I have been wearing. Spending two nights in 20*F-30*F temperatures my feet felt really great. The only time that they were cold at all was the second morning. I'm a smaller 10.5 US I'd say, got an 11 and I really appreciated how much space and air the shows had, no more feet + socks stuffed against the walls of the shoes. I probably could have been fine with a 10.5, but honestly they fit pretty well, no blisters or anything while hiking. I'm sure when I get to a double sock temperature situation, the extra space will come in handy. Massive toe box is nice.

Procrastinated on purchasing the Salomon Toundra Pro CSWP, after using them winter hiking and snowshoeing they have more than exceeded my expectations. The boots are warm and are well suited for snowshoe bindings. I have a wider foot but the fit is great.

Disappointing

I have had these boot for approximately 1 year. I agree with other reviews that the boots are comfortable and warm. However, after less than 1 year of use, the seam where the boot flexes, just behind the toe box, has separated on 3 of the 4 sides. I live in Minnesota, so the boots are used regularly during the winter months. Given the price, I really had hoped that I would have gotten more than 1 winter's use out of them.

As a follow up to my previous post, I contacted Salomon directly about my boots. After sending them some basic information like a picture of the separated seam and proof of purchase, they agreed it was a manufacturing defect and sent me a $200 credit to their online store. So, while I was disappointed in the boots, I was very impressed with Salomon's level of customer service.

I used these for a few days already and am very happy. They are super comfortable and have a very large toe box for thick socks and/ or adding in some toe warmers too. My first use in them was in 9 degree weather. They kept me very warm, until I was sitting still for 3.5 hours straight. That is when my toes started to get a bit cold, but nothing unbearable, and definitely better than any other boots I've tried out. I found them to be true to size.

Great Work Boot

I got these boots for a family member of mine who is a police officer and has plantar fascia, here is what he has to say: I have worked as a police officer for over 18 years and recently purchased these boots for work through the winter. They are extremely comfortable and keep my feet warm/dry. For years I have suffered from feet and leg pain. With these boots I have noticed a significant difference in fatigue which allows me to work several more hours on my feet without discomfort. Thanks Salomon!

I got these as a gift. So far he says they are really warm and secure on ice and snow. For sizing, if you are in the bigger whole sizes, you may want to go up a size.

So much warmer than other 'active' style winter boots I've worn in the past. My wife has the women's version and says the same. Great boot, can't comment on the longevity yet, but the fit is great, they are far less bulky and much lighter than other boots that offer this level of insulation.

Using them for Chicago winters and have been impressed so far. Sturdy and lightweight. Very warm and so far, waterproof. Spent an hour outside and my feet never got cold. Haven't had the problem of laces coming undone like some of the other reviews. Just double tied them. A little more utilitarian looking compared to other brands. Wouldn't wear them in Aspen or Park City but for Chicago slush and snow, perfect.

20% discount does not apply

So I’m new to Backcountry.com. After ordering a jacket for my wife, I receive a large type offer for a 20% discount on the purchase of my next full priced item. Warning, this only applies to selected items and not to the Salomon Toundra Pro Boots. Unhappy Hiker.

Par for the course with their discounts. The fine print on exclusions is longer than the list of ingredients in a Twinkie. I have never been able to use a discount code with BC.

BC was bought buy an investment group from California a couple of years ago. They replaced some upper management and got rid of a lot of their benefits and sales. It's not the same old store it used to be.

Deep Winter

This is a great boot for deep winter. I use it for shoveling snow off the driveway, and I don't slip or have any traction issues. I think you'll be really impressed no matter what you'll be using the boot for.

This is a superb winter boot. It is exceedingly warm, very comfortable, and unbelievably light. After years and years of Sorels and LLBean Sorel knock-offs, I had to find something both warmer and lighter and these have been fantastic. I've now used these for several Maine winters of snowshoeing, mountain hiking and driveway shoveling and they never disappoint. I don't have particularly good circulation, but I've never had cold feet with these. The soles have good traction and the laces pull smoothly for easy tightening. Snowshoe bindings stay on well, thanks to the nubs on the heels. They are truly waterproof. Durability seems just fine so far, but I haven't yet put them through many, many miles of walking. My only complaint: The first pair I received had some kind of subtle defect that made one of them bruise the front of my shin. The replacement pair felt much better and the boots have had an excellent, blister-free fit from the beginning. Just a quality control issue, I think.

These boots are incredibly light, and comfortable for sedentary and winter hiking activities. I've used them in -20F weather and my feet were toasty. Warmest I've ever worn. But after 1 year of intermittent use the boots had deep creases where the toe box flexes and a one inch long crack opened up. The other boot had similar signs but hasn't yet torn. I purchased a container of shoegoo and put on several layers and so far it's held up. While I love the boots comfort and warmth I wish it were made more durable.

Not pleased w BC response to leaking boots, but will suck it up. Looking to order new Pro version of the Toundra, but if you are saying the new version also cracks at the crease and leaks, not good! BC, will you do something with that if this boot from Salomon fails again at the same point?

I had a similar issue with the Salomon Quest 4D GTX boots where the crease by the toes allowed moisture into the boot. I contacted Salomon directly and sent them a picture. That same day they said that that is a manufacturing defect and they gave me $240 (the list price of that pair of boots on their website) for use in their online store. They have a warranty that lasts for 2 years from date of purchase. Great customer service from Salomon and great footwear!

Just got these boots and they are better than I could've expected. Super comfortable and burly, but it's really crazy how light they are too. I just got them, so I am interested to see how they hold up over time.

Warmest boots I've ever owned

I don't think you can find a burlier, more capable, and more comfortable winter boot. The Quest 4D2 GTX boots are arguably the best hiking boots you can buy, with these being their subzero cousin. You could easily hike in these, but I think they are better suited for urban/suburban life and any activity involving long exposures to frigid temperatures. If you are doing a lot of winter hiking over varied terrain, the Vasque Snowburban Ultradry is a better option. They aren't as stiff as the Salomon's, and would do better at dedicated hiking.

Which boot would be better for snow showing?

I normally take a US size 10 in Salomon boots (43.5. Euro). Do you need to go up a 1/2 or full size in this boot?
