It's no secret that Salomon's trail shoes tend to run a little narrow, so even though the newest edition of their famous Speedcross trail running shoe is wider than its predecessors, the wide-footed runners with trust issues among us can turn to the Speedcross 5 Wide Trail Running Shoe for a fit that gives their feet comfort on technical trails.
The outsole of this shoe has been updated with deeper and more generously spaced lugs, giving you greater traction in soft and loose conditions like mud and snow. The softer and tackier rubber is also ideal for grip in soft conditions, and the unique heel-unit design of the midsole provides greater stability for those times when you're worried about slipping out as you wind your way down muddy switchbacks. The forefoot stays plenty flexible too, so you can really dig into steep trails as your toes splay out comfortably and you kick things into high gear.

Best sport shoes ever
Currently using them as a general shoe for city and hiking in Europe. Dolomites and Swiss Alps. So comfortable. Supportive. Great traction.

Speedcross 5
Haven't used them yet. Bought as a replacement for my Speedcross 4's which were a great shoe. Hope these last just as well.

Salomon Speedcross 5 wide review
This shoe is a solid product from my limited time with it so far but the wide isn't really wide enough for some people and I found the websites sizing guide gave me a shoe that was maybe a half a size too small. It works but it's not quite comfortable. I measured my foot and did the translation into UK size but yeah, it ended up being just a little too small.

Great for technical terrain
I’ve had a few pairs or Speedcross shoes, these are my first wides and I am so relieved that the toe bow opens up a little. I injured my foot and the swelling made my pinky toe sensitive and these are honestly one of my only pairs of shoes that I don’t notice the discomfort. My only issue with the 5s is that, something in the design is allowing a lot more dirt and rocks to enter the shoe from the foot opening.

Trail runners
Great shoes for the grip. Not enough sole padding and wears out the bottom fairly quickly. They don't really last over 6 months after 2 days a week of use.

Far too narrow
I was really looking forward to receiving these, as they look great and the tread is fantastic. But it is ludicrous to describe them as 'wide fit' - they are narrower (at about 100mm across) than other 'standard' shoes I have! And I have wide-fit shoes from another firm which are 120mm across. The '12mm' increase in no way translates to what anyone with wide feet would describe as wide enough. I am hugely disappointed and will have to return them.

Front lugs
Have found the prominent front lugs taking some getting use to, would cut them off if I was sure it wouldn't compromise the sole. Otherwise, great fit and comfortable.

Speedcross 5
Good performance, as expected. Top quality product. I must say my old Speedcross 4 still feels a tiny bit safer and stronger on uneven and slippery terrain (but only just).

3rd pair
These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. I had a stroke and tend to drag one foot. So the issue I have is one side wears very well while the other wears out. Curios if they ever resolute these shoes! Great shoes obviously, due to mine and most sizes are always sold out!

Great shoe, or greatest shoe?!
Firstly, the shipping was amazingly fast. Arrived way earlier than expected. As for the shoe itself, fit is perfect. A wide shoe that is actually wide! Lightweight, comfortable straight out of the box, and the grip is second to none. If you're considering a pair, DO IT!! 12/10 definitely recommend.
