HPS - Taka X Wolle Snowboard

Toted as a "Japenese style powder-board" the HPS - Taka X Wolle Snowboard is a directional twin deck built to provide you with ultimate control and float in deep pow. At the heart of its pow prowess is the tapered directional shape that forces your back foot down and nose up for exceptional float in fresh snow. If you find yourself on groomers for a day you will love the edge to edge control and easy turn initiation it provides.

Working with this maneuverable shape, the Powder Camber profile blends powerful camber from behind the back insert to under your front foot with a short rocker section to the tail and a more pronounced rocker section out to the tip. This combination also thrives in both powder and on firm pack by floating effortlessly over powder and also allowing for easy energy transfer to your edges and strong edge hold on firm pack. To support your hard charging but not limit maneuverability, the HPS possesses a medium flex that is stable, easily manipulated, and fun.

    • Directional twin shape eases turn initiation and float in pow
    • Powder Camber blends edge control with deep snow prowess

    Great Surfy All Mountain Board

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I rode this board at a demo and ended up buying it once it came out. It has a unique surfy feel to it (a function of the nose rocker and tail camber). Like the other reviewer said, it can feel a bit squirrelly at high speeds in chunky snow (think Jackson Hole or Snowbird on a super chunky day). I have a stiffer more aggressive board already, so that is not what I was looking for. The Taka is more like the perfect all-mountain board for powder days and slightly less gnar resorts. I've had a great time carving on it, in powder, and groomer cruising.

      Surf the Snow

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had the opportunity to ride this board at a local demo and coming from a Salomon Sick Stick (160), I knew I would like this board. I rode the 158cm with a set of Salomon bindings (which I ride already). With a set back stance and a wide nose, this would make for a great pow board but we weren't so lucky with our conditions. If you still have the itch to carve when there's no fresh snow, don't fret, it handles fresh corduroy just as well. I did notice when we got off the freshly groomed trails and into the chunder the board felt a little too soft and squirrely at high speeds. If you're trying to set your personal best top speed, you're likely on a well groomed trail anyway so I have no concerns there. Aesthetically, I prefer simple boards, the bamboo looking top sheet and the plain black base was right up my alley, you can always deck it out in stickers if you need a little more flair. If you're a relocated surfer or just trying to get your soul-carve on, this board might just be the one for you.
