Metal bits turn red

The metal bits on the shoes (to hook the laces) turned red... after just 3 months of use. Very disappointed by Salomon. The shoes are expensive enough they could have put more quality into this. Salomon, I will reconsider you next time

Walking on a cloud

Most comfortable shoes/boots Ive ever worn. Also my first pair of Salomons. Have always been scared to spend the money on these, only to find out they would hurt my sensitive feet — but these dont! So lightweight and comfortable I could wear them all day.

All around great hiker

This is my 4th pair of GTX mid hikers in the last 6 years. They have changed the details over that time but I still find them great all around hikers. I use them for hiking and backpacking. The waterproofing works well even when hiking through streams and wet fields. One comment I would make is that the soles do not seem to last as long as I would like but I really am not sure how many miles I put on them before they show significant wear but it in the 100s of miles so take that for what it’s worth. I do like that the soles have good grip on wet rocks so that is probably the trade off between good grip and longer life. Although the uppers are not leather they wear well and hold up for the life of the soles. The fit is comfortable right out of the box but I do order a half size larger than my normal shoes as I wear heavy hiking socks with these shoes.

Ready to Roll Right Out of the Box

I bought these boots for work. Work happens to be in the harshest mountain range in the west Arizona desert. The boots fit true to size, didn't require any breaking in, and made my feet the last thing I had to worry about. The only reason I didn't give them a five star was on one of the hottest day on a nasty hike the inner soles kept bunching up near my toes. Could have been caused by sweat didn't cause any blisters just felt annoying.

Durable

I bought these as a gift for a friend of mine. He happens to be a SC State Trooper and needed something durable for all weather conditions. “They breathe well and keep em dry!” As he put it.

Premature failure

This is the second pair of these boots I’ve had and they have both failed in the same way. The material either side of the boot level with the bottom of the laces has frayed and started to come apart, just where the boot flexes when you walk. I only had the boots around 6 months before this started (okay I average 20 to 30 per week but not all with the same boots as I tend to rotate my boots) once the fray starts the boots are no longer waterproof. When my first pair failed I thought this was unlucky or that I’d caused a small rip or been to vigorous when cleaning my boots. I liked the weight and feel of the boots so had a second pair.

Great comfort poor durability

I have been using the Salomon brand footwear for over 20 years and was very disappointed with this purchase. The comfort and stability was there from the start, good stability of the lacing system once broken in (a couple of days / 10 miles or so) and wearing for a long time showed the traditional features I have always enjoyed & relied on. Unfortunately after only 5 months of use (~585 miles) on trail & track and flat level walking the sole, mainly in the heel section has almost worn through to the next level. A slightly biased wear pattern owing to "toe out" walking pattern, but compared to the last pair of boots I bought 7 years prior (Comet 3D GTX) these have not come close. By "wrongly using" them in a "friction ground" application this is the OEM's expected wear rate! Note, this was feedback from customer services on raising the issue. Also found them to be slippy in icy conditions, I guess that the softer soles hasn't increased the coefficient of friction qualities despite being softer.

Not for me

Have had a pair of these for around a year now. Have not got on very well with them. The sole is fine for paths but on steep incline or decline it doesn’t have much grip. I would go at least half a size up in these as my toes have hit the end on the down hill. Have done hikes ranging from 2mi-11mi. The laces when wet seem to come undone very easily. This is the first pair of boots I have fallen in due to lack of grip. Have also found them to not be 100% waterproof.

Very comfortable but the squeaking noise......

This is my second pair of these boots and both have done the same thing. After a few weeks the right boot started squeaking. I went back to the retail store and was told to put some powder in the boot to stop it. I was hoping that it was just something wrong with this one boot so I bought another pair and just like before, the right boot started squeaking. This has never happened to me with any other shoe or boot including other Salomon footwear. I really love how comfortable this boot is but I can't take the noise.
