This is my second pair of Salomon's.** I bought this new pair with a 20% off sale (I think) in April, 2020 and brought them into service in summer of 2021. Since then I have been on 7 non-winter backpacking trips (17 nights) & 6 day hikes, but I don't always use these boots. On my last trip, I noticed a piece of the sole dangling from my boot (see photo with piece removed). It is outside the warranty period, so I am out of luck. While Salomon gave me a 15% off coupon, it is not worth purchasing a new pair from them, if they will just wear out after a year of use. **My first pair lasted me about 5 years--~39 backpacking trips (~68 nights) in Adirondacks and Catskills and ~56 day hikes. The uppers were really starting to fall apart at the end.

Very comfortable but leaked after a year or so
These were very comfortable out of the box, needing no break in. Initially they were quite waterproof but after a year or so of occasional use I found my socks were wet inside the boots around the toe area after walking through wet grass and the occasional shallow puddle. This is despite reproofing with the correct Nikwax product. Clearly the Goretex membrane has broken down or worn through in a relatively short time.

proper grown up boots for expeditions to anywhere
Used a pair of Salomon 3D years ago to complete the TrailWalker 100km. Last year I suffered from foot injury when trying to complete the Wainright Coast to Coast. Chose the 4D GTX and have already done 300 miles in them. Super comfortable, very supporting, excellent arch structure, fully waterproof (like short wellies!), and have been remarkably easy to wear in. They are "heavy" at first, but they don't reduce my speed over ground and improve my stamina, so get a big thumbs up. Extra thumbs up for the grip; 3D were a little lacking, but the 4D GTX grip is excellent (and I have a pair of Inov8 Rocklite G345 to compare with).

Poor quality
I bought this pair one month ago. Used it on one trip in the mountains on trail. Already showing wear and starting to fall apart.

The most comfortable footwear I own
I bought my pair just over 2 years ago (Jan 2019) and they were my 'go anywhere' boots. Any conditions, any temperature, nothing stopped these. I loved them so much. It broke my heart to see that a large tear on the side by the ball of the foot. The best part was they were still waterproof with the tear. Great product, lasted 600km of tougher than average hiking in the arctic, desert, and muddy trails. I'll definitely get myself another pair soon.

Brillant Boots
Purchased and used over the last 2 months, great boots fits like a glove , was a bit concerned as I have purchased in the past Salomon trail Running shoes and they were a bit tight but these boots are perfect fit maybe the walking boots are a wider fit. I normally have shoe size 9 but went for the half size up 9.5 they have a good width my feet are 4&2-8ths inches wide - 107mm wide. Easy to walk in great support all round good surface grip and light. They also have side hooks that allow you to grip the laces so it is easer to do the laces up.
