Excellent experience

Super light. Traction average or above. I have had them almost a year and they are proving to be durable so far. Before buying, I saw a couple of reviews that indicated they are narrow for some feet. My feet are average width or slightly narrow. The boots fit perfectly on me.

Sometimes Surprises Are A Good Thing

This summer I went on my second trek at Philmont, the Boy Scout high adventure base in the Santa De Cristo mountains of New Mexico. On the second day of a 12 day, 80+ mile trek, my old Vasque boots failed while ascending a plateau. One boot completely lost its sole. I knew they were getting worn but had no idea they were that bad! Philmont is known for it's amazing support staff, and they sent a radio message for new boots. Good news, they got something to me a day later. Bad news (I thought) was that they did not have traditional boots. The closest thing in my size was a pair of Salomon Outward GX which I was told were "more like a trail shoe than a boot". I was more than a little dubious when I heard that - I have arthritis in my left knee and need the support of a sturdy boot. I was also not happy because like many hikers I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to researching gear - and especially boots. I spend hours researching online, talking to people, trying pairs on, and generally driving people around me crazy as I debate the virtues of different boots. I figured I would just have to make these Salomons work for now and then buy something else when I got home. I am very happy to report that these boots exceeded any expectations I had. They not only got me through the rest of that trek, including bagging two mountains and the Tooth of Time, but they've earned a place in my loadout. The boots are much lighter than any I've owned but give me plenty of support, even on the uneven terrain and rocks of New Mexico. They were surprisingly comfortable - I told my crew that I felt like I was wearing tennis shoes. I often have trouble with my toes feeling squeezed by the toebox of boots, but have had no such problems with these. After over a hundred miles of hiking and other events they show very little wear. I seldom write product reviews but I felt I needed to tell you how much I appreciate these boots - they made it possible for me to complete my trek and will part of my gear for years to come.

Returned: low quality, poor design, uncomfortable

The tongue is made up of two fabrics sewed together creating a hard bulge at the edges.  This seam pushes/rubs uncomfortably against the ankle when laced up. Unfortunately, this design flaw makes them unwearable for any duration of time... The insole is thin and provides no support or added comfort. The overall quality is low and the shoes are not symmetrical around the toe. Yes, I am now being picky but these are not cheap hiking boots... The sizing charts found on the website is inaccurate and the shoe runs a half size large. My son, who wears the same size shoe as me, tried them on and had the same experience.  I would NOT recommend buying these boots...

Good Comfortable Boot

Bought these two months ago and got used to them during short local hikes. The big test was Mt. St. Helens and they performed great during a 6 hour hike. No pain or discomfort. One issue I had shortly after purchase were the laces. They seemed too chunky and slippery to maintain a tight tie up and often came undone. Replaced the laces and the boots have served me well. Third pair of Salomons over the past dozen years and no disappointments.

They feel great

I haven’t worn them out yet but they feel great around the house. I don’t think they will take long to break in and they feel like a good weight. I got mine an extra half size big so that I could use them after I get off the slopes in the winter. Even with the extra room I feel really secure in the boot.

Perfect for weekend adventures

Stylish, comfy and work like a dream. Great traction on slippy surfaces and sizing is pretty spot on. Mainly used for heading up onto Dartmoor and exploring the SW Coast path. Been through mud, snow slippery rocks and marsh without any issues. Feet have stayed warm and dry as well.

great fit

I have been wearing Salomon shoes for years. This is the first pair that I have bought that fit just right. Other pairs I have tend to shrink over time. If I don't wear them for long they take a few days to break in again. These ones fit the same every time and have not shrunk yet.
