I bought this shoe and loved the way they looked. The materials seemed very durable. I wear a 9.5 in other Salomon hiking shoes but these were just too slim. Unfortunately I had to return them. I have very slim feet and have never had issues with shoes being too skinny so I was surprised at how slim these fit. Maybe you could go up half a size or even a full size and they would work for you but they are already a bulky boot and sizing up too much would make me look like I was wearing clown shoes I think.

I really wanted to like these boots. Seemed like they had everything going for them ... light weight, the potential to keep my feet cooler, and plenty of ankle support. This fall, I wore them in Alpine Lakes Wilderness on a 75 mile trip, and then two shorter trips after for a total of about 25 miles. I tried my best to make them work. They didn't. When they arrived new I put them on and loved them. They fit very well, especially with the socks I planned to wear on the 75-mile backpacking trip. After a few days on the trail, that comfy fit changed. The boots didn't bend in the right place in the front and my feet were uncomfortable. I couldn't tell if my feet were wet because of sweat or the water we passed through, but things were damp down there. They had all the characteristics of being too big. That light weight attribute I mentioned earlier? The soles are not heavy luge soles and that helps reduce the weight. Unfortunately, it also puts the sole of your foot closer to rocks and roots. The thinner sole seemed to accentuate the effects of those rocks and roots on the bottoms of my feet. The soles had a number of cuts in them and there were even a few frays in the fabric. I tried returning them after the first trip, but of course Backcountry wouldn't accept them because I wore them. I tried to appeal to Salomon, but that didn't work either. I would just say, beware of this shoe or buy a half size smaller if you just have to try it out. I didn't follow Gore's recommendations for breaking in the boots. Had I known about them I probably could have avoided the issues I experienced: https://www.gore-tex.com/blog/art-breaking-hiking-boots I wish I would have read Andrew Skurka's review before I purchased these boots: https://andrewskurka.com/waterproof-gore-tex-shoes-second-chance-complete-failure/ Back to experimenting ...

Really wanted to like these shoes. Have heard good things about Salomon, and these look good, are light, waterproof, seem flexible for a lot of activities, but they fail as soon as you put them on. I have very average size and shaped foot, and have never returned a pair of shoes before, but I could not even wear these for a few minutes. The front of the shoe is so tight it restricts circulation to toes, and the heel feels like the widest part of the whole thing. Unless your foot is shaped like a hot dog this is far from the best choice.

I got the GTX Outlines for a recent backpacking trip. I was a bit worried since I didn't have time to break them in, but honestly they were super comfortable and didn't cause any hot spots after 30 plus miles over the course of three days. Having the Gore-tex option was also nice since there was a few shallow spots of water to cross, in which my feet stayed dry. The ankle support I would say is average, but did the job. The grip was amazing, but I would say Salomon is known for that!! One thing that I do need to mention is that I wouldn't say they are meant for long backpacking trips. They are more of a day hiker boot, but it's not to say they can't do the job of a long backpack. Overall I would definitely recommend these boots. One last thing to add is I also love the Urban look and feel of the boots. They are great for day hikes, urban walking, and the short to medium backpacking trip.

Love these boots! Originally ordered the low profile version and recently ordered the high top for longer hikes. Have only logged around 30 miles but already can tell they will last.

(3.5 out of 5) Right off the bat, the boots are very light weight. They lasted for about six months and they are about done. I wore them regularly, but I feel as though they did wear out quick and I could start to feel every rock while hiking through Sanora desert trails throughout Arizona. I liked the boot, but the soles did not last, however the uppers maintained well. the boot performed well; it is definitely a light weight hiker meant for mild trails.

These boots filled a big void for me and are now my go to for just about everything. The Salomon Quest 4D has been my do everything trail boot but are often overkill for everyday use. The Outline gives you incredible versatility allowing me to wear them to the office and head straight to the trail after I finish for the day. The GTX liner keeps you feet dry while still giving you great breath-ability. I find that they also work a little better with micro spikes because of the trail runner profile.

Very supportive for only a 3/4 boot. Light weight is great, but not the most robust sole so can feel the rocks on the trail. First hike on these was a 12 mile backpacking trip and they didn't give me any blisters. Gore tex is nice, keeps the feet dry.

Lightweight Boots
These boots are light weight and well constructed. I have worn these on multiple hikes is the Arizona mountains. PROS: lightweight, excellent grip, breathes well, well constructed. CONS: seams on each side of the ankle; I often wear super lightweight ankle socks because my feet have a tendency to get hot. When I wear ankle socks, they rub a raw spot on one of my ankles. If I wear socks above the boot itâs perfectly fine.

The One Shoe You Need For A Weekend Trip
If you have to bring one shoe on a weekend trip where you'll be hiking and hitting the town, this is the shoe for you. As a Salomon employee, I was looking forward to trying out this shoe and was excited when they came in right before a weekend trip to the Tetons. Putting 25 miles in over two days, I had no issues. They're lightweight, breathable, and perfect for wearing straight from the trail to dinner in Jackson. I'd recommend going down a 1/2 size, i'm normally a 7.5 and wear a 7 in these.
