Why We Like The Outline GTX Hiking Shoe

We like to hike from peak to peak, or just from the car to the campsite even, in the Outline GTX Hiking Shoe. Salomon designed this shoe to feel as though we're wearing a lightweight running shoe, but with the traction and protection of a hiking boot. A GORE-TEX Comfort membrane shields your feet from water when crossing a creek or getting rained out in an isolated storm, while the Contragrip sole provides you with the traction you need on any trail.

Details

  • Multi-purpose hiking shoe for exploring wild places without limit
  • GORE-TEX Comfort membrane blocks out water when isolated storms hit
  • Contagrip sole provides traction in soft dirt or hard packed clay
  • Synthetic upper creates a lightweight and durable construction
  • Ortholite footbed cushions and supports over rocky terrain

One of Salomon's best

I have both a low and mid version of this shoe, and I love both. The are comfortable, attractive, and the mid doesn't catch the hem of my jeans! It is disappointing to see that it appears to be discontinued. I hope they will bring it back, with more color choices, too!

Best feel on the trail I’ve ever had!

I hiked all over Olympic this past summer and these shoes were perfect! I have never had a pair of hiking shoes that connected me to the ground like these do! It’s hard to put into words but it seems as if the soles soften when I step off the road onto the trail. Yet, they are sturdy and have great grip! I love these hiking shoes!

Best Shoe I've Ever Had

These are the best shoes ever. I have narrow feet; somewhere between AA and AAA. These shoes fit me better than any others I've had in my life. They are very durable and comfortable. I definitely recommend them for people with narrow feet.

Actually, Salomon shoes are the only shoe I wear... Pretty much says it all.

WayTooNarrow

Have had these shoes for a while now. Should have written this review earlier but they are the most narrow shoe I’ve ever worn. I don’t have wide feet and these suffocate my toes. I see they have a wide version - but I’m sure their version of wide is the normal width of a regular shoe. The waterproofing of the goretex is great - good looking shoe too - but no way I’m recommending these to anyone. Awful.

Best shoes I have ever had!

This is my second pair of the same shoes and I love them (I completely wore the soles of the past pair flat). Comfy, stylish and waterproof, couldn't of asked for more. I wouldn't change a thing about them.

Feet are dying

I bought these in July, extremely excited to replace my beloved adidas Terrex. I hiked and walked close to 100 miles in these things hoping they would mold to my feet. Well, I am sad to say, I’m in the market again. My feet feel like they are getting bunions. I had to go back to my 3 year old terrex shoes because I cannot have my feet aching like they do in the Solomons. Such a bummer. Maybe it’s just my feet bc I am female? I have work plenty of mens basketball shoes over my career with no issues in those. So who knows!

Great Shoe – One Flaw

Great, comfortable hiker – but the fabric frays at the crease/flex point on the sides of the toe box, and just after four months of use. I understand the rubberized coating not covering the area to allow the flex as you walk, but I also feel that a good round of testing would've revealed the issue. The Solomon contagrip outsole has held up well. Overall, a comfortable hiker – but the issue of the fabric fraying would keep me from buying it, again. I hope a solution can be found, because I really like the shoe.

I had high hopes for this shoe but ....

I bought the Outline Goretex hiking shoes to use for short distance hiking (< 5 mi), work around the yard, and for winter commuting to work. The Outlines were a replacement for another shoe which lasted had 5-6 years. My work is in a North East office and I wanted a waterproof winter shoe that did not scream "hiking boot" when paired with dress pants on my way to work. I was excited to find the Outlines as I thought they met all my goals. They look great and are very comfortable. However, after a short period of use, it became apparent these shoes were not going to last. The sole material wears out quickly and the cloth covering the toes is prone to fraying on both shoes, just as a result of the wrinkle that forms when your foot flexes. Overall, these shoes are not a good value. They are more akin to a sneaker that you would replace yearly than a hiking shoe.
