If your idea of a day in the backcountry involves high speed skinning and then boot packing to the top of an exposed summit, then the Salomon MTN Summit 79 Ski is a great backcountry partner. These sticks use a super lightweight construction made possible by a proprietary carbon and flax combination. This carbon fiber creates snappy response and reliable torsional rigidity, while the flax dampens out the feel to reduce chatter on firmer surfaces. Because neither of these materials retain screws well, the MTN Summit 79 comes packed with a titanal plate underfoot to ensure your bindings stay fully attached even in high torque situations.

Light as a feather
These skis are fantastic touring machines. While they obviously struggle in powder on descents, they do quite well in shallower or firmer snow conditions or in on-piste terrain. As far as touring goes, these are great. Their light weight and small size make touring uphill straightforward and easy. Similarily, these can be easily strapped to a pack, and you'll barely notice the weight. Be prepared for people in ski shops to be impressed/slightly scared of how light your skis are, but if you are trying to move fast and light in the mountains, or get to challenging winter summits, these are a great option. I've paired these with the Salomon MTN bindings, and I think they make a great combo.
