Explore new zones.

When the same old sheep trails leading out of the resort gates no longer tickle your sense of adventure, buckle up the Salomon Women's MTN Explore Ski Boot and set your own skintrack into those remote and far-flung backcountry zones. Designed to remain nimble on the up, comfortable during long, contouring skintracks, and dependable on the descent, Salomon's MTN Explore Boot is a solid offering any backcountry-roaming skier will appreciate.

Salmon's long been known for it's hard-charging line of alpine boots, but when it came out with its all-new series of backcountry-specific boots, folks were forced to rethink what they thought they knew about Salomon boots. Striking a healthy balance between weight savings and downhill performance, Salomon integrated several new technologies into this boot to make it a well-rounded backcountry tool. For starters, Salomon built the shell around its Sensifit shell technology, which eliminates needless materials throughout the shell but reinforces it in key areas to maintain a progressive and responsive flex while skiing. When coupled with the lightweight carbon spine, the MTN Explore delivers big on the descent, without sacrificing an ounce of performance on the ascent.

In terms of fit, the MTN Explore features a narrow 98mm last and easy-flexing 90 flex index ideal for lighter skiers that plan on being in this boot for upwards of eight hours a day hiking for the best snow and most aesthetic lines. The women's-specific liner and cuff is shaped to match narrower legs and calves and is slightly shorter in height to better fit the female leg. And if that wasn't enough, Salomon made the liner heat moldable to ensure a precise and snug fit through the heel, arch, and toe box. With 64 degrees of cuff rotation, the MTN makes short work of bootpacks and long skintracks, and the well-designed buckle layout is specifically designed to trim time from your transitions with just two lightweight aluminum buckles that can be quickly fastened and a horizontal ski/walk mode latch that can by quickly engaged with a quick flick of the wrist when it's time to lock things tight and ski your line.

It is tough to find a boot that will be as light as this boot is while maintaining its ski-ability and walk-ability. it has a fairly high-volume fit so if your foot is narrow, especially in the heel, some other boots may be the better pick.

If this boot fits, don't hesitate to pick it up

    Great touring boot!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have toured in these ski boots for 2 years. I have a very narrow foot and finding a boot that fits my foot comfortably is always a challenge. There are boots on the market with a wider ROM for the uphill, but this boot is very light for its downhill performance. Once you get it dialed in I feel confident skiing steeps and crud in almost any conditions in the back country.

    For a (very special!) friend.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

A great friend of mine is getting into skiing a bit more--and touring, too. She wanted something relatively stiff (stiffer than her prior boots, at least), and something that could transition from the resort to the backcountry. I tried finding her the best boot for her narrow fit, and so far, this one has proven truly fantastic. Comfortable, just stiff enough, and ready to rip.

    Killer Boots!

This is a fantastic option for any woman looking to push their abilities in the backcountry. Salomon designed this boot to be lightweight, have a large range of motion, and comfortable for the uphill. In contrast for the downhilll aspect this boot is nothing but amazing. Being a "90" flex it's a perfect all around stiffness for a female skiier, weather you're strictly on soft snow, running these boots inbounds on corduroy, or skiing spring time corn, this boot will perform great through all those conditions. Originally this boot was based off of the men's version that did extremely well in all the magazine tests, the only changes they made to this one is the flex rating, color changes, and they gave you a little thicker liner for a more comfortable feel. I'd recommend this boot to any woman looking for a great alpine touring boot that they can also use inbounds.

    Solomon MTN Exlpore

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased these boots before christmas. They are a dream touring up but very uncomfortable skiing down - particularly aggressive downhill skiing. The tongue is thin and very hard, and slides off centre (even with laces done up) digging into my shin. The pull tab on the tongue tore right off on the 5th use, Solomon has been incredibly lax about getting back to me on this issue. These are far too expensive a boot for issues. I would not recommend this boot for women.

    The Best!

These boots are amazing! They are very light weight and so comfortable which is super nice when touring uphill. The walk mode is a huge plus as well. I love the softer flex on these as well.
