Salewa Ultra Train 3 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Why We Like The Ultra Train 3 Trail Running Shoe

Running along uneven terrain is a breeze when we're wearing the Ultra Train 3 Trail Running Shoe. Designed to stabilize us without restraining natural movement, this shoe uses sole technology that grips the dirt with aggressive lugs and a tread design that makes heel-to-toe motions fluid, regardless of rocks and roots alike.
  • Stabilizing shoe for trail running or speed hiking
  • 8mm drop reduces foot fatigue and encourages natural gait
  • Pomoca sole promotes motion control over uneven terrain
  • Lace closure that also secures heel in place for snug fit
  • Stretch gaiter at tongue keeps small pebbles out

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. The Salewa MS Ultra Train 3 is marketed as a lightweight speed hiking shoe. I have been wearing them mostly in the grass while playing sports with my kids, a lot of sprinting, juking, and quick direction changes. I have also spent a significant time in them hiking my local trails. I live in Southern California where the weather is warm, and the trails are dry, loose, sandy, and rocky. I have really enjoyed how breathable and lightweight they are. Traction has been excellent in both grass and on the dry trails. They are supportive and comfortable to jog/run in. Disclaimer: I swapped out the insoles to Superfeet insoles, which I do on all my shoes. I wear a size 9, and the shoes are true-to-size. The toe box on these is wider than the toe box on my Salomon trial shoes. If you have narrow feet, these shoes probably would not be a great fit. I have only worn them for a little over 2 months so I am unable comment on durability, but so far, there have not been any craftsmanship issues. The only thing I do not love about the shoes are the laces. They have a tendency to come untied, but simply double-knotting them has eliminated this problem. Overall, the Salewa MS Ultra Train 3 has exceeded my expectations. They are versatile and more comfortable than my previous trial shoes. I plan on buying another pair after these are worn out.
