Very robust design..

Hii...I'm Ravi from Northan India (western Himalaya).I run my an adventure company. I have a great liking for this shoes and have been using it since 8 months. One of the best boot I have ever wore. Very comfortable and light. My wear and tear of shoes is great so if this shoe is doing wel so far that means it is a good shoes. Although on slippery surface the shoes has no grip, other wise it has a great grip on rough and scree terrain.

Boots okay, but (not) for the via ferrata and are very clumsy boots.

I usally always purchase Altberg boots hand made in Yorkshire England and are the best boots in the world lasting 7-years of heavy mountain use. However, I wanted to try something different this time and Bought the Rapace. first use I got a blister on my right inner small toe. Although the rear ankle support is incredible, The heel brake is a life saver climbing on mountain loose steep scree. The Rapace is not an agile or has much dexterity making walking like Frankenstein monster the Rapace seem clumsy whilst hiking in the mountains. The positive aspects of this boot is the aggressive sole amazing on slippery wet mud grass good on loose scree. Although, dangerous on moss covers rocks and frost or light dusting of snow and can easily slipping over if you are not careful. The features are amazing withe these boots. Although, I would (never) have another or purchase These boots again. I don't think this boots will last very long probably 2-years max. These are (not) climbing boots and (not) via ferrata to clumsy and no agility.

Mick the mountain man.

Outstanding boots!

This is my 3rd pair of Salewa boots over 10-12 years, and the best of all. I primarily buy them for alpine elk hunting in the high country of Colorado. I fell in love with the Mt Trainers in 2015, and wore them out. I liked/tolerated the Mt Trooper for 5 years, but couldn’t handle the narrow fit for using several days in a row. The Rapace might be the best boot I’ve experienced, and love the performance straight out of the gate. Solid boots that have excellent support and soles, ample toebox with feeling clownish (enough room to put a toe warmer on top of my socks and still pack 8 mile days), and super lightweight. Gore Tex liner performed through snow and stream crossings. 2 notes: the nubuck leather does not appear to have a factory waterproof treatment. I learned this the hard way, and the wet leather became pretty cold - though my feet stayed dry (thankfully!). You will want to Nikwax them asap. Secondly- and this is no diss on Salewa - but what is the deal with cheap stock insoles? They are worthless. I literally had to toss the ones provided and installed better footbeds. If you’re going to put these boots (and your feet) through the paces, you will regret using what comes installed to protect your feet and keep you comfortable. If this were not true, there would not be a dozen aftermarket insole brands in our shops all of a sudden. I like the footbeds from Scarpa and Remind Insoles. To all the footwear brand designers who may never read this review: I would rather receive a packet of Nikwax than some token cheap piece of foam that resembles a slice of cheese. This is literally where the foot engages with your product, and should be taken more seriously.

The boots are purpose-built... stiff mountaineering boots for rugged terrain. Used for mountain bear hunting and was very pleased. No complaints or cons yet.

Great Boot!

I had these boots around a year. Wore them every day. They have held up great. Bought another pair. Original boot laces which I am very surprised. Soles have stayed on even though I have wore them thru the sole in places. Comfortable boot that I have worn every day for approximately a year.

Durability issues after one hike!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Good for one hike in the White Mtns of NH. At the summit I removed my boots to air my tootsies and gave my new boots a once over. I was horrified to see that the GoreTex liner was tearing away from the boot collar. I can only add one photo to the review but I also found (as others have mentioned) that the lugs were missing chunks of rubber. Gorgeous boot but not to the standards I came to know Salewa for. A worthy replacement for my Salewa Firetail EVOs continues..

Really disappointed - Poor Durability

Familiarity:

Really bummed about these boots - mainly over the durability of their soles. I bought these on June 23 (almost exactly a month ago) and have taken them on one 4-day trip and one 5-day trip both with mixed dirt trail, snow, rock in the Cascades. Upon finishing our last trip I looked at the soles and they look super beat up for less than 10 days of use. Really disappointing for a $300 pair of boots that I would expect to last multiple seasons. I'm not sure if this is an issue with Salewa or more with the Vibram soles but I cannot recommend boots that fall apart so quickly. I'm typically pretty careful with my gear and have never had durability complaints with anything else; so if you're looking for boots to use on rock/scrambling/mixed climbing, I would look elsewhere. Attached some photos so you can see the condition of the lugs after 9 days of use...
