good and bad

when the new Mtn. Trainers are on my feet they are great! BUT its very difficult to get them on! that piece of elastic/stretting dirt guard (under the laces) will not stretch enought - allow the shoe to open enought- to let my foot in!!! and i have fairly narrow feet. its a real struggle that probably is weakening- breaking down the rear heal support. i may be easier as it wears in but maybe NOT??? also those small /short stitching between each lace slot- is after one hike- are starting to fray! what i did there was put a drop of superglue on each one of those- it should weld that tread together so they don't unravel or fray. i'll be going out to buy a Shoe Horn- and i hope this makes it easier to get on- my fingure is sore from using it. ALso the loop in the rear is a good idea BUT the hole in it is too SMALL for men !!! i'm putting so much pull presure on that that its stitching may come loose at some point.

Sizing needs calibration

A high quality shoe, but the sizing runs small by 1 full size.

Excellent shoes!

Excellente shoes. I am wearing them all the time and I am keeping buying the same model over and over. I really appreciate the strong support they offer to my feet.

Unique offering from Salewa

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

A low cut non waterproof boot. The leather lined is very nice and locks the heel in but i will probably get the synthetic lined version next for faster drying during stream crossings though I haven't tested that out yet. They weigh 19.2 oz. for size 12. I hope salewa keep making this shoe and i wish other companies would enter this segment because it's an Under appreciated type of shoe especially for off trail. Order a half size up from your nike size. The top of my foot does rub weirdly but I solved that problem with a lacing technique

The MTN Trainer 2 has been a great approach and hiking shoe, its solid and very durable. It was stiff out of the box and did have a bit of a break in period, but overall good shoe

Great shoe, I’ve only had them a few weeks, but they appear to be very well made and of high quality. Aa far as the sizing goes, they do run a tad small. I’m a 10.5 in most and 11 in Nike. I’m in an 11 with these, the fit is perfect. I could see if your foot is wide, or you like a little more room, I would size up accordingly.

Excellent shoe but extremely narrow.

I have a slightly narrow foot and was excited to try this shoe based on reports that it might be a good fit. Unfortunately, even after sizing up to a 9.5 from my regular 9, it is so tight as to be difficult to put the shoe on and actually painful after just a few minutes of wear. As stated by the other reviewer, this shoe fits much narrower than other offering in the Mountain Trainer lineup. Only order this version if you are a B-C width. Otherwise, you would have to go up a whole size to get a normal D fit in the width. I was concerned that this would be too long for me. Hence, they are being returned.

Way Different Than the Mountain Trainer

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Weight:
null

I've owned four pair of Mountain Trainers (low) and they're the best shoes I've ever used. These are quite a different breed, though. The concept seems good, and if I had a low instep, they might fit. I ordered the same size I've always used and the length was fine, but there's a piece of slightly stretchy material above the tongue and below the laces that doesn't allow the shoe to open up. It was really hard to get my foot in and when I did, there was serious pressure on my instep, even cutting the blood flow off and this was without even lacing the shoe. It's too bad, because I probably would have really liked the shoe otherwise. If the material was stretchier or wider at the instep, they would have worked. I wish I didn't have to give a star rating, since I couldn't use the shoe. Any star rating is invalid. I gave it five stars, because the design, otherwise, and quality deserves it for someone who can use the shoe.
