When the mountains are your playground, these are your gym shoes.

Taking elements from more alpine specific boots, the Salewa Men's Mountain Trainer L Hiking Shoe has all the critical components needed to get you to high and remote places. Their climbing style laces let you dial in the perfect fit for your feet while providing the secure fit needed when climbing exposed and technical trails. Salewa's 3F system helps lock your heel into the pocket of the shoe for a secure fit but still grants the ankle full mobility for a comfortable feel while hiking. The mid-stiff midsole give the shoe the solid platform needed when scrambling up steep pitches, and the durable Vibram sole makes for a solid contact point between you and ground, so you always feel secure in your footing.

Ok, so I saw this hiking shoes in another store a year before buying them in Backcountry. The shoes in that other store were (I assume) deffective as they felt very uncomfortable when I tried them. I decided to buy them in Backcountry and they felt really good (same size, and model of course).

Sadly after walking for a couple of hours realized they hurt my ankle (see photo). Still, I had waited more than a year to see if I found another shoes that I liked better (with no success), I bought a "heel cup gel antishock support" that fixed the problem and now I can use them all day, Overall very good quality, comfortable, enough space for thick socks, water resistant, great grip (really) and nice looking shoes. I'm happy I didn't return them*

    * I have to highlight the awesome online support Nate Simpson provided, When I told him about my ankle he offered me a return/refund right away, without any complication. Thanks Nate! I'm keeping these!

    Weird fit

I love hiking and have hiked in the Whites, the Rockies, the Tetons, the French and Italian Alps, and have discovered that approach shoes are what suit me best on those hikes. I got these after my wife bought and loved the previous gen GTX mountain trainers. Everyone's feet are different, obviously, but these did not fit me well at all. The lacing came up 2 inches short of the top of my ankle, which made me feel like I was stepping out of the shoes every time I took a step. The 3F system didn't seem to exist at all and my heel kept popping out. I have low volume, low arch feet, and I have found Scarpas to be too wide and voluminous, so I thought these would be up my alley. Wrong! I put some nice footbeds in them and they fit worse. I sent them back. My Scarpa Crux are 10x better fitting. I found some success with Garmont Dragontails with a good footbed in them. I wanted to like these, but they were the worst fitting approach shoes I've ever bought, and I think I've bought ten different pairs over the years.

    Great Light-Weight Shoe!

My dad is an avid hiker and has been hiking all over the northwest mountains my whole life. That being said, he has a knack for a good hiking show, and has always known a good product when he finds one.
I bought these Salewa's for my dad after a year of searching for the perfect hiking shoe. We needed one that was going to be super lightweight, with good traction, and durability. The Salewa Mountain Trainer L Hiking Shoe is exactly what we needed, it even has room for his inserts that he uses on longer hikes. The sizing was great, with just enough room in the toe so that there isn't jamming. Would recommend to others who like to hike everywhere from the Tetons, wind-rivers, sawtooths, down to the Zion, Moab areas.

    Unanswered Question

Is this shoe sold with Salewa's "Blister Free guarantee?" If so, could you tell me how exactly it works as I need to actually hike outside to know whether or not the shoe produces blisters? Thanks!
