The mountains are calling, here's your shoes.

From a brand with a rich alpine heritage, Salewa built the Women's Mountain Trainer Hiking Shoes to deliver the performance you need when you take to the hills. Maintaining many of the same features you'd find on a big and burly alpine boot, this light hiker combines the rugged durability of Salewa's  mountaineering oriented boots but in a more nimble design for quick day hikes and lightning fast summer ascents.

On their uppers, the shoes utilize a combination of suede and Cordura, and they're reinforced with a full-wrap rubber rand to protect against wear from rocks, logs, and brush. A breathable mesh lining provides a high level of comfort on those really hot days in the hills, while their mid-stiff midsole delivers the performance needed when scrambling up scree fields and climbing up those exposed sections of trail just before the summit. A durable Vibram sole give these shoes the solid grounding they need to function in a high mountain environment.

    Runs Large but Bomber

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

These shoes don't seem to need a break in period. Ive worn these on long hikes without getting any blisters. This is my first pair of shoes with vibram and its so good and so sticky. I took the advice of the other reviewers and sized down. Im usually a size 8 and a 7.5 fit just right. These are quite stiff but it translates to the feel of durability and support.

    I love these shoes!

I've put about 50 miles on these shoes so far and they were awesome from the get-go. They are so stiff and grippy - just perfect for the rocks. I haven't gotten any blisters (as promised!). I agree with the other reviewer - get a half size smaller than usual. The only other call-out I'd make is that the soles are so stiff that they aren't the most comfortable on the flat trails - nothing I can't push through and worth it for the awesome stability I get in the rocks. Plus - they are so super cute!

LOVE, recommend sizing 1/2 size down

This is my 3rd pair of Salewas. I have the Mountain Trainer mid in size 8 and they are the only hiking boots I've found in 20 years of trying that don't give me blisters. I've had trouble finding a running/walking shoe that doesn't aggravate my plantar fasciitis, so my husband recommended trying these. I had to exchange for a 7.5 because the 8 was too big (my custom orthotic insoles that I use in the size 8 hiking boots were swimming in the size 8s of this shoe, but fit perfectly in the size 7.5). I love how adjustable the lacing is so I can get a perfect fit around my narrow heels and wider instep. Some people may find these to be too stiff, but that's what I like about them. And they have already started to break in after a week of wear.
