Handles anything the mountain throws at it.
Trek through treacherous terrain with the Salewa Men's Mountain Trainer Hiking Shoe underfoot. Its 3F System Evo uses aluminum stays at the heel for flexibility and mobility that won't interfere with the shoe's much-needed support. Salewa made the Mountain Trainer's upper out of Cordura for breathability, reinforced it with suede for durability, and gave it a 360-degree rubber rand for rock protection. The breathable lining features Cleansport NXT's odor-resistant treatment for long-lasting freshness. Climbing-style laces secure the shoe's fit from heel to toe. This shoe also features a conforming Multi-Fit Footbed + for customized cush, a mid-stiff nylon midsole for stability, and Vibram's rugged Alpine Approach sole for supreme grip.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
The other reviews are pretty tough on these. Read this one as well...
These shoes are not for everyone. The sole is stiff. The tread is rugged. The upper is burly. These are rugged hike boots in a low cut. I have been trudging through the local brush and rocky trails surrounding the area, and I have been VERY pleased. The foot bed is ok, I threw in my SuperFeet's, The support is what you would expect from a true hike boot, but simply a lower cut. Made for a purpose.
Other reviews note lace breakage, I have been using mine all summer and have not seen a single point of wear. Maybe this was fixed sense you got yours?
If you want a true rugged approach shoe, these could be your jam.
No More Salewa for me and NO More Goat

I really had thought I had found my Shoe brand, I wear Boots or GTX type shoes daily and really was initially impressed with the fit of Salewas this is my 5 th pair in two years and I am done - Everyone has broken shoelaces and three pairs are blowing out around the toe casing and one has a sole delaminating . I have asked my gearhead at Backcountry for help on the shoelaces front with little or no response or Call Salewa which I tried and they do nothing- I am tired of the run around at Backcountry and Salewa and will go back to making REI my number 1 supplier
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: 11.5 US
- Height: 6'1"
- Weight: 185lbs
FYI- Size 45 (11.5 US) is almost a full size larger than the the original Firetail model (their best design). New factories maybe. Backcountry/Salewa size chart isn't correct for this model either. Otherwise it's well made. I prefer the Gore-Tex versions, but these were on sale. I didn't keep them because I'm not in love with Salewa's color options this season. I really like the brand, but they seem to have changed.
Also disappointing return wasn't free.
I read other reviews and figured I would give them a chance but after 100 miles they still haven't broken in. The result is that they are just too uncomfortable to wear. I have been happy with other Salewa shoes but these are getting thrown away.
