Bad Fit

Not a good Salewa model! I wear a 10 in almost all trainers but I go up half a size in Scarpa, Salewa and other backpacking boots. I have a 10.5 on the Mid version of this shoe and it fits great. However, this model in a 10.5 is very tight and the shoe opening is very large. Very weird fitting shoe. If you tighten up the laces, the shoe chokes your feet, if you loosen up the laces, tons of heel slip. And don't you dare try removing the laces, you will need a lot of patience to redo the laces! Almost impossible to feed the laces through. Use a needle nose plyer to feed the laces through if you ever remove the laces. The build quality is very good though.

Low volume

Unually low volume toe box but with a large ankle opening. The result is that toes are cramped and heel slips. Sizing up didn?t help and time hasn?t stretched the toe box. That all said, the construction is top quality so if it happens to fit, great shoe that will last!

Nicely made, small volu

Have had several pair of Salewas and they are long lived and well made. The problem with this one is that it runs narrow with low foot volume. Mine did not run small, just very tight.

These are superbly designed shoes, with a stiff and very supportive sole. The lacing system is very adjustable and effective, and the two layer tongue system is innovative. However *** these are sized small ? narrow and low volume, particularly in the toe box. The fit is totally different from the higher volume, wider ?Mountain Trainer Lite? model, but this is a much more refined shoe. (I usually wear a 12, but need a 12.5 (46.5 European size) in the Mountain Trainer Lite, and the 13 (47 European size) in the Mountain Trainer 2 is a bit too snug for me).

The overall fit, design, and build quality of this shoe appear to be excellent. The length is perfect but the width is a little narrow, which is great for me. Unfortunately as a reviewer pointed out with the GTX this is a low volume shoe, so if you have a high volume foot this will likely not fit. - My arch is higher than most creating need for a higher volume shoe. Normally with a shoe like this I can spread the lacing wider until the shoe stretches during wear. On this shoe a tongue cover is sewn all the way around which sets a limit to how wide it will spread, and squeezes my foot too tightly. Note: I contemplated just cutting the tongue cover but it looks like the lining is one piece and after cutting the lining the lifespan would likely be reduce unless I sewed the edges to prevent fraying and to keep the lining tight. A gusseted tongue would have been much better.
