    For the high-elevation haul.

Camping above treeline will test your tent's ability to withstand high winds, so be sure to bring along the wind-tested Salewa Litetrek Pro II 2-Person 3-Season Tent along the next time you plan on camping in a wind-prone cirque or high-mountain pass. Salewa tested this tent in a wind tunnel at the University of Munich where the tent withstood wind speeds up to 55 miles per hour. The Litetrek's fly and floor are composed of tear-resistant nylon fabric, and the lightweight poles strike a balance between strength and weight, keeping the trail weight of the tent down to a respectable 3lb 12oz.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had the privilege of using this tent for the first time last weekend. I was excited to get my hands on it, given its unique features , and let's be honest great aesthetics. I was not disappointed. It sets up incredibly fast and is a taught free stander. Once I figured out the guy system (actually super simple when you know what to do) this tent is rock-solid. This tent is very storm-worthy-lab tested up to 55mph winds I would not hesitate to take this tent into the high alpine and depend on it. I definitely falls into a 3 season convertible tent--pushing 4 season weather resistance at an incredibly light weight.

So the tent can shine as an extreme weather shelter, but I think its greatest strength is its versatility. The entire interior can be removed by unclipping about 20 micro-buckles, leaving you with an extremely fast, light, and strong shelter. I opted to take the tent in this mode to save the 1.5lbs of interior and use a Tyvek ground sheet. The tent is low enough to the ground that we did not have bug problems and slept with the rear vent open and door cracked---no condensation issues.

The tent is also extremely spacious for a 2-person shelter (which is what you want in the alpine). We were both able to sit fully upright in the tent and deflate/roll-up our sleeping pads at the same time, due to the steep walls and generous footprint. Also the front door can double as a floor mat, or mess station. My only complaint is that the pockets of the tent are located on the fly inside the vestibule--this was actually really nice using it without the interior, but I could imagine it could leave something to be desired when trying to organize two people personal items while using the interior of the tent.

Salewa hit it out of the park with this tent. I don't think there is a tent on the market that offers the same levels of innovation, security, low-weight and flexibility.
